Ostrich Man Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 10 November 2006KEANE: PREMIERSHIP IS FULL OF CHEATS AND DIVERSSimon BirdROY KEANE says top Premiership stars should be embarrassed at the level of their "diving and cheating". As football spirals towards chaos with players, managers and referees at war with each other, former Manchester United midfielder Keane claims his family would have disowned him if he had indulged in some of the worst excesses being witnessed this season. The Sunderland boss says he is "being driven crazy" by having to watch today's brand of football with so many players "rolling around like they have been shot". Keane reckons it is fair game for players to give each other a good kicking, but that gamesmanship has to be stamped out, with managers taking a stand. Hard-man Keane, now a surprisingly calm figure on the touchline as he cuts his managerial teeth at Championship Sunderland, said: "Refs are getting scrutinised left right and centre. But I have to say that the players aren't helping them one bit. "Players are conning each other. I'm glad I'm not playing anymore, especially in the Premiership, because there's a lot of sneaky stuff going on that makes it hard for referees. "You watch on TV and think has he been fouled, has he gone down? I can't get my head round a player who rolls round in agony but then gets up 30 seconds later and plays on. "There are lots of players doing it. Everyone goes down the foreign route, but there are plenty of lads who play for England who do it, and lads who play for Ireland and Scotland who do it. It's not just a foreign thing. "Lads I've played with dive, and it drives me crazy. "It's crazy because if you go down faking injury, after the game you have to go and see your family. My family would disown me if I was trying to get another player in trouble. "You don't mind people having a go at you, hitting you hard but not this rolling round. "You see it every week in the Premiership. Sit down and watch Match of the Day, you'd see players do it. Players have got to take responsibility. "If I was a player or manager, I'd be embarrassed. It's cheating. Managers have to take responsibility, and I'm trying to do that with my players at Sunderland. "They say 'give him a booking, send him off'. We all know the players, I could tell you them, high profile ones, I wouldn't give them the time of day. "Players have got to look to treat referees fairly. When they go down it must be genuine. Players know each other, they know Paul Scholes won't go down rolling around, the same with Steven Gerrard. "I went and kicked a lot of players, but I'm on about conning the referee. Referees need to know the players who are trying to put one over on them by diving. "I've never seen a referee change his mind. It must be hard for referees. If they don't do anything about a player on the ground and he is badly injured, then they're in the height of trouble." Keane confessed that the incident that taught him to cool it with referees was the infamous game when he led Manchester United players in surrounding Andy D'Urso. Famously pictured with eyes and neck veins bulging, Keane led a pack chasing D'Urso across the pitch after he awarded a free-kick against Jaap Stam during his side's clash against Middlesbrough in January 2000. Keane said: "I wouldn't say that picture embarrasses me, it was a learning curve. It's hard to make excuses, it was completely wrong, 100 per cent wrong. "I made the wrong decision, but I got in trouble with the manager the next morning. Sir Alex Ferguson wasn't happy with it. "Sir Alex told me that the next day in no uncertain terms and I was fined for it. People think I had a licence to do that, far from it. "At the time I didn't think it was that bad because I hadn't seen it, but then he showed me the video clip. I still think whoever took the picture superimposed the veins, it was camera trickery, I didn't get that close to him! "I still reckon if he hadn't run, we wouldn't have chased him. He kept running to the far side." But Keane, who was sent off 11 times at United, says referees like Graham Poll, who is at the centre of the latest controversies, are under huge pressure but they should account for their actions to the public immediately after a game. He added: "Decisions get scrutinised which puts pressure on them. It would help if they just maybe spoke after games. Players and managers make mistakes and we have to face the music so why not referees? A five-minute chat, maybe just about the game in general. Take the sending off of John Terry. There's allegations. If Graham Poll comes out after the game and says, 'That's why I sent him off' - for abusive language, for pushing, whatever it was - that's the end of it. "Poll came to United three or four years ago and had a chat with the players and discussed decision making. "He said we're human beings, don't give me dog's abuse during the game. It was a good conversation, it was interesting." 'That picture of me and the ref, Andy D'Urso.. I was completely wrong, it was 100 per cent the wrong decision. I got in trouble with Sir Alex the next morning, but I still think that whoever took the picture superimposed those bulging veins!' here do you agree/disagree?
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 "Lads I've played with dive, and it drives me crazy." Roy Keane in shock admission that Ronaldo is officially the worst cheat in the World
Ostrich Man Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 i took it to mean Finnan for Ireland.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 I can't get my head round a player who rolls round in agony but then gets up 30 seconds later and plays on. This is where we need to introduce guns to the refs. 'oh, I thought you were really hurt back there? Well, you are now' BLAM and he pops in the knee. The most embarassing example of theatrics I can recall in recent times was Reyes against Real Madrid where he rolled in agony off the pitch, noticed play continuing because he was actually off the pitch and then proceeded to roll on to the pitch. Idiot.
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Diving, who me.. LOL Great clip that. Hendry would have booted him out of the ground if Keane had got to him as well
Guest Anders Honoré Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 (edited) Diving, who me.. didn't look like a dive to me. Hendry just catches his foot at the tip. Think quite a few of the alleged dives is really just a case of people not factoring in that in full speed it doesn't take that much to throw a player off balance. Ostrich Man Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 Diving, who me..was trying to remember who he got sent off for diving against when i was reading the paper today...couldnt remember...its a s*** dive....as far as im concerned they all f***ing dive at some point including scholes and gerrard.....though granted some do fall down more often than others. though to be fair to Roy(as im gonna be) he seems more fecked off with the rolling around pretending to be injured after the dive. still a dives a dive
NWR Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Remember that well. Went down easily but did not dive. Didnt even try to claim a penalty. I am not biased.
Cobs Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 didn't look like a dive to me. Hendry just catches his foot at the tip. Think quite a few of the alleged dives is really just a case of people not factoring in that in full speed it doesn't take that much to throw a player off balance.he's on his way down before there's any contact = dive FACT!
Coyler Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 do you agree/disagree?I agree. But he was one of them and so is Steven Gerrard and so is Scholes. The fact that most of the time he didn't engage in playacting or simulation doesn't absolve him from his hypocrisy. Carra has dived like a camp swan to win frees on numerous occasions. I wouldn't take accept any fecking preaching from him on the morals of diving just because most of the time gets up after getting a clatter in a tackle with no complaints, when it suits him. Keane was the same. Ditto from Gerrard. If Keane had said, "we've all done it, even us 'hard men', because sometimes you need to win a free or a penno -- especially when under strict instructions from Alex to actively win them -- or get someone another yellow card; but I think there's a difference between doing it when it suits and doing it all the time" then there'd be no problem.
NWR Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 LOL Rubbish - stonewall dive At least I said I was biased. Are you Andy? Go on. say it.
Ostrich Man Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 At least I said I was biased. Are you Andy? Go on. say it.id say Andy is Biased and proud of it. arent we all.
NWR Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 he's on his way down before there's any contact = dive FACT! Watch it again
Guest Anders Honoré Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 LOL Rubbish - stonewall dive Look at Hendry's leg. You can see it bouncing from the contact with Keane before it hits the ground.
Ostrich Man Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 Look at Hendry's leg. You can see it bouncing from the contact with Keane before it hits the ground.look at keanes left leg....its dragging readying himself for a dive before hendry doesnt make contact with the other leg. and i love the bloke.
Coyler Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 This is like some weird, beautiful world where club affiliations have been reset. Imagine there's no five-times...
Guy_Incognito Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 On the subject of Scholes diving - which we're not - anyone remember his shocker in the Worthington Cup Final against us? There was literally no contact down he goes. He didn't get a free kick for it, mind. Just thought I'd bring it up.

And yeah, that was blatant. look at keanes left leg....its dragging readying himself for a dive before hendry doesnt make contact with the other leg.and i love the bloke. you're right. It was a dive.
Ostrich Man Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 still hes not as bad at it as Gerrard.
Coyler Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 still hes not as bad at it as Gerrard.Does Gerrard come out with these hypocritical statements about the diving of others, though? (He might well do, like. I'm asking.)
