Nerik Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 This is a translation of the article below reported in the Italian media: "Benitez is a winner and might leave Liverpool for a serious project-Agent" Inter and AC Milan are looking to the future. Besides scouring Italy and the rest of the world for new players, the two Milanese clubs may also be pondering a change of manager for their respective teams. When talking about a new manager for AC Milan, the names mentioned are Van Basten, Lippi and even Spalletti. Quite a few options are also mentioned for Inter Milan. After having his position questioned for months, it now seems as if it is Roberto Mancini himself who wants to leave Inter Milan. In recent days Mancini has admitted that he would like to have a go at managing a club in the Premiership. In that case Inter Milan would have to look for a replacement. Last year, besides talk of Mourinho, a name that consistently popped up in Moratti's circle is that of Rafael Benitez the Liverpool manager, one of the most successful managers at club level in recent years. Benitez's agent, Manuel Garcìa Quilòn, in an exclusive interview with calciomercato.com talks about the Spanish manager who has won so much in his career, despite his relatively young age. "Benitez is a very well prepared manager. He works 24hrs a day and prepares his teams tactically like few other managers in the world do. Just look at what he has won. The league and UEFA Cup with Valencia and in 3yrs at Liverpool he has won the Champions League, Super Cup and FA Cup." Manuel Garcia Quilon does not comment when asked about the reported interest shown in Benitez by Italian clubs. He does however say "Benitez would be very well adapted to manage in Italy, with his preferred style of play. He is one of the 3 best managers in the world and if an interesting proposal regarding a serious project had to come up we would certainlyt take it into consideration. Yes, in this case he may well even leave Liverpool. The Spanish coach is under contract with the English club until 2009.
Molby Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Italian future? - with a ? so what do YOU think?
mrjunk Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 speculation of the highest order. It would take a nuclear bomb to dislodge rafa from liverpool.
CarraLegend Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 (edited) And Gerrard is off to Juve for £15m And we might sign Zebina aswell. Italian press is worse than ours and I wouldnt even believe the quotes. I think he'll try Italy one day, not for a long while yet though. Edited November 8, 2006 by CarraLegend
McBain Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 "Benitez is a very well prepared manager. He works 24hrs a day" Agent in filthy lies shock
Nerik Posted November 8, 2006 Author Posted November 8, 2006 Italian future? - with a ? so what do YOU think? I think that Rafa would not be interested in joining Inter Milan. AC Milan on the other hand are a big, successful club. I'd like to think that Rafa loves it at LFC and will stay for many years to come. What worries me is the reported quotes by his agent. I hope they are quoted wrongly or made up to be honest as I do not like what he says.
Kopfaithful Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I thought rafa had just signed a contract until 2010?
CarraLegend Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 (edited) I hope they are quoted wrongly or made up to be honest as I do not like what he says. He barely says anything, just he'd consider a job offer from one of the biggest clubs in the world if it came along and he might leave (Or he might not). Hardly earth shattering. He has no attachment to us other than his work here so of course he'd look at it, just like Mourinho would, just like Rijkaard would and everyone else. And he'd probably tell them to do one like he did to Madrid. Edited November 8, 2006 by CarraLegend

I'm sure that Moores and Parry are just about to bring the investment in so that Rafa can sign the players he really wants for next season - so no problem there either
Nerik Posted November 8, 2006 Author Posted November 8, 2006 I hope so too Molby. My main worry is not Rafa (though I was worried when the White comments were published) but what his agent is saying about possibly leaving Liverpool if the offer is right. Of course it is an agent's job etc. but he is stirring it up with such comments.
CarraLegend Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 but he is stirring it up with such comments. He probably didnt expect someone to copy it from the Italian press to English on every LFC forum going.
£440,000 Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 "Benitez is a very well prepared manager. He works 24hrs a day" Agent in filthy lies shock If he's not willing to put in more hours than that then we don't want him anyway.
Nerik Posted November 8, 2006 Author Posted November 8, 2006 Well it is on the front page of the most viewed Italian football website. Kind of like getting it published in The Mirror and not expecting a reaction.
Benitez Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I'd be surprised if Rafa would be so keen to go to that joke of a league at this moment. He's turned down Inter Milan twice already an all. Maybe in a few years who knows.
Molby Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 these things are sometimes distorted in translation, let alone misquoted on paper we have no real chance of winning the Prem, due not enough money to spend on top players but with Rafa at the helm, we have a punchers chance if we are lucky with injuries if there is a problem in the future, it is that while Rafa works tirelessly and unselfishly with what he has, the board do not do the same to bring in investment - if rafa perceives it thus, he will undoubtedly reconsider his position
The Hitman Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 The Italian league is a busted flush at the moment. No chance.
Ronnie Whelan Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Not very reassuring quotes from your managers agent. I really dont think Rafa will leave in the short term, but this doesnt exactly fill you full of optimism. The reverse happened a couple of weeks ago, in that someone within the club questioned Rafa, this week Rafa's agent is putting a question to the club so it should be interesting to see how he will respond.
Kopfaithful Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 are these quotes not the ones that were flying round when rafa was pressing the board for assurances for money before signing his new contract? there's nothing to say these quotes are valid quotes but taken from febuary or so this year.

He's an agent, it's what they do.
Ronnie Whelan Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 his agent has done similar before when Madrid where sniffing about. He's an agent, it's what they do. That is what they do. Directors of companies also want what is best for their company. Noel White resigned last week because of comments he made, even though it could be argued that in his opinion this is what would be best for the club. An agents job is to represent his client, by saying: "Benitez would be very well adapted to manage in Italy, with his preferred style of play. He is one of the 3 best managers in the world and if an interesting proposal regarding a serious project had to come up we would certainlyt take it into consideration. Yes, in this case he may well even leave Liverpool. he may well be representing his clients opinion, and if that is the case then it is a little disconcerting. If he is misrepresenting his client then Rafa needs to have words with him. If Rafa is here til his contract expires then his agent does not need to keep any future suitors happy when he will not need to enter discussions with them for at least 4 years.
johngibo YPC Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 i reckon Rafa likes the hands on approach to management in the UK. He seems to prefer to have total control over everything at the club, like managers get in England. Obviously this was not the case in Spain, where rafa kept getting bought lamps. What is the case in Italy? Don't they have general managers and head coaches?
Will Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 are these quotes not the ones that were flying round when rafa was pressing the board for assurances for money before signing his new contract? there's nothing to say these quotes are valid quotes but taken from febuary or so this year. The quotes mention he has won the FA Cup....
Kopfaithful Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 The quotes mention he has won the FA Cup.... he had a crystal ball :-)
nb Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 If the agent actually said what`s been quoted, you have to consider what an agent`s job really is. His job is to make sure that Benitez works with the best term available at all times. Whoever is employed by someone will probably not tell everyone that they will stay there for 10 years even if they plan to. Even if Benitez is happy he will for sure use any normal means to get higher salaries, bigger transferbudget and better terms in his job, as would most people. The insecurity that remarks like this from an agent might give the board may make them splash the cash for Benitez later. I`m not worried by this at all.
matty Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I think that Rafa would not be interested in joining Inter Milan. AC Milan on the other hand are a big, successful club. Inter won the double last season. AC Milan are in 16th place in Serie A. Get ye to feck.
