I think a certain measure of 'accumulated merit' over the years also factors in in these kind of awards. In that regard, I can't see much wrong with Buffon winning it. He's one of the best goalkeepers ever in my book.

Based on 2006 performances it is Cannavaro and Buffon for me,especially their form in the World Cup. I'd give it to Cannavaro for the main reason that since the World Cup we have hardly seen Buffon playing any top level footie.
