Benitez Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Premiership footballer El Hadji Diouf has been arrested over allegations he hit his wife at their home in Bolton. The 25-year-old, who plays for Bolton Wanderers, was held by police after reports of an assault on his wife Valerie in the early hours of Sunday. The Senegal international was given bail and must return to a police station on Wednesday to find out if he will be charged. Diouf joined the club from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee in June 2005. The striker was initially brought to England by former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier, who signed him from French club Lens for £10m in 2002. A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "At 0645 GMT on Sunday 5 November police were called to an address in Bolton following reports of an assault. "Officers attended and a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault. "He has been bailed until Wednesday 8 November pending further inquiries." bbc
