madaboutlfc Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Did just li anyone see that 2 footed tackle from behind from fat fw*** which would have merited a red card in most cases on Chimbonda.. I knew he would not get booked just like he didnt when he broke Xabis foot... Its a f***en joke the c*** who is one of the worst tacklers gets away with aweful tackles.. Its just not him.. Ive seen Rooney make those scissor tackles from behind and not even get booked.. Its disgraceful..
dorgie Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Did anybody notice lampard for the 40 minutes or so that Spurs were all over them ? No, me neither.
Coyler Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Don't want to act the Cobs, but he was satisfyingly anti-Chelsea in the second half with little decisions.

Nebraska Red Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Lampard did what he usually does in hard games, he went missing. if there is a need for players to fight for the points, you can be sure that Lampard will be hiding out of sight. My only fear was him getting one of his pinball deflection goal from a dubious free kick. It was nice to see him put his only chance over the bar. Alan Parry said he would have put his mortgage on that going in, Parry clearly does not watch Lampards goals too often. Re the point of the thread, it has become clear that the big names get away with some stuff that would not be tolerated if it was a no name player. I was stunned by the red for Terry as you would have expected him to get off with that throwdown. I just wish it had been Carvalho, as he is a horrible little man.

Graham Poll noticed that his picture hadn't been up on the big screen for a while.
Leo No.8 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Poll is absolutely awful. He's the master of losing all control over a game whilst believing in his own pompous head he's got it all in hand. The cards come out way too quickly for relatively innocuous offences, but rather than that putting the players in their place it gets the crowd worked up, which then translates to the players and the game become 'The Graham Poll Show'. The best referees are the ones who don't want to be noticed.
Guest The Defender Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 What i dont get.. is that its not even debatable that he is an awful ref.. even the F.a should know.. but they keep giving him hi profile games.. Doesn't make sense at all.

"Graham Poll is the coolest head on the pitch at the moment" is a phrase that gets an airing from the commentators very frequently -- i.e., he's let the players go mental.

I thought Poll was inconsistent in showing cards yesterday and is no different than any other ref in the premiership.. they are all garbage...
John am Rhein Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 If a ref clamps down on bad tackles and all the other stuff AND remains consistent in that, he ends up giving out about 15 yellow and 3 red cards - and he then gets blamed for that.
Leo No.8 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Poll is appallingly inconsistent. I've seen him keep his cards in his pocket largely and manage games admirably from time to time, but the bigger the game the more he wants to hog the limelight and dish the cards out. Madaboutlfc - my point is that the best refs are those who give cards only when they have to. A player should really have to persistantly foul one hell of a lot or commit a couple of bad-ish tackles to go for two yellows. Too many players are sent off for two innocuous trips or tugs of the shirt when a word in the ear would suffice no problem and keep the game an even contest. The less a referee is involved, the more the game is flowing. The players are who everyone has paid good money to come and watch, not the referee, so those who don't wave cards when they don't have to are the best in my eyes. In terms of the rules I don't believe a penalty and red card should be given for a last man foul inside the box if a genuine attempt is made to play the ball either. Losing most likely a goal from the spot and a player as well just spoils games and makes them too one-sided. I understand why the professional foul rule was brought in, to stop players rugby tackling someone who's clean through, but a slightly mis-timed tackle in the box resulting in a sending off and a penalty is too much. I don't think the rule was brought in to be used that way. Referees can't use common sense anymore, and if it carries on the game will eventually become non-contact and in turn less enjoyable. There are way too many cards, much too much diving and it shouldn't be allowed to get any worse. The certain physical aspect of the game is a big part of what makes us watch it.
