well i think most would agree that our first choice 11 is.....(and yes at the end of the day, we do have a first 11)

-----------------reina--------------

finnan--carra---hyypia------riise

------------------------------------

gerrard-alonso-sissoko-garcia

------kuyt--------crouch---------

Rafa has spent the first few months resting players/tried different options and it seems to me the above 11 is the first choice with the left mid position being rotated, ie garcia with gonzalez

out of that, only kuyt is the sole new player...gonzalez was always going to be one who would take time to adjust and grow into the premiership.

But really Bellamy, zenden and pennant are what they were surely bought as...squad players, Gerrard was always gonna be number 1 on the right hand side...with the odd game playing inside and pennant coming in to cover.

Aurillo looked pretty awful when he played, certainly not the quality we need...yes he`ll of course be given time and more chances...

still after looking at all the new signings, Kuyt is the one who is true world class and actually takes our side to a different level...

Palletta, gonzalez and agger are for the future...

but for me, the three signings from premiership clubs(ones who should have settled and looked better than they have)...pennant,zenden and bellamy dont give me any real confidence of becoming true first 11 players....the type who will actually guide us forward and make a big difference in games.

Maybe my point is, this past summer we spent big on one true world class player, ready for the big games......and the rest spent on 4-5 good back up squad players with a few to the future..

Next summer, we need more like kuyt.....instead of 5-6 decent squad players, 1-2 top quality world class players ready and intellegent enough to stamp their mark upon liverpool football club NOW.

We now have a decent squad....time for some more world class.

20-25million on two top class players required.

Zenden was a free transfer and probably bought more for his experience. Bellamy has pace, which is something we lacked and was coming off a good season at Blackburn. Don't write him off yet. Pennant though was probnably a late choice after the Alves deal fell through. He certainly wasn't worth the 6 million Brum put on his head.

The way Agger has been playing, I don't think he is for the future. Been our best defender this season.

Bellamy is some way from the form he showed last season. If he can get back to that, I think he has a good shot at claiming a first team spot ahead of Crouch.

Agree about Agger hes been our best defender this season and while Sami still offers something for the 1st team he has been exposed, away from home especially, id like to see Agger and Carragher given a good run together.

As for the other new signings i have no worries about Bellamy, he hasnt got the goals but i think his performances have been good, hes similar to Kujt in that even if he doesnt score hes always a threat because of this workrate.

Ive seen enough of Gonzalez to know hes going to be a good player for us, but he was always going to need time to settle in, Aurellio hasnt been great but on a free hes a good squad option. Pennant had to be brought in simply because that position badly needed filling but i think hes a squad player at best.

I fully agree with your final point though, the last 2 years Rafa has had to move out a lot and bring in a lot, he now has a squad thats his players, id like to see us buy 2 real top quality players next season that will immediately strengthen the first team.

Gerrard & Alonso CENTRE OF MIDFIELD

Sissoko can only play when we are up against a big team and we need to be more solid in the centre, or with 10 minutes to go, 1-0 up and we want to close the game down.

We need to be positive and sissoko does not offer a creative or forward thinking option. I'm sorry to tell you this boys

People used to say the same about Hamann. Sissoko offers balance to the midfield and protection to Alonso, and not many midfields play four (or five) "creative" players. You also can't discount Sissoko's ability to win possession back higher up the pitch than we have done in years either. He's still got a lot to learn and improve on though....

Zenden is playing his second season for us.....So if Zenden is a new signing so is Sissoko and Crouch in your first choice line up.....

Shall I point out the obvious?

Sissoko is a very good player, who can win the ball, and let the others play.

However in order to win the league, we need to let teams worry about us, and not the other way round, against Reading, Sheff u, and Watford we need 6 players who can all threaten their goal, the back 4 should be able to cope. Momo does not offer anything going forward, we need to learn when to use him.

Problem this season is that we have invested in pace and width, re. bellamy gonzalez, pennant, yet none so far has produced the goods.

which means that we are tormented by the same problems we have had these last years. no width or pace.

Posted

it's not just that the play tends to bottleneck in the middle. We don't have anyone doing attacking runs and players moving off that. Riise does it occasionally and Gerrard and when they do we end up really threatening but it doesnt happen enough.

Yes please......

Zenden was injured for all bar 2 months of last season.

oh...didn't know that......
