Bootle Buck Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Little seems to get mentioned about the job Gerard Houllier is doing at Lyon. They have won every CL game and are 11 points clear in the league. Despite losing some top players since he arrived they have gone from strength to strength. Great Job GH!
Benitez Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 (edited) 's funny innit, when he went there, he was on a bit of a hiding to nothing with them cos of past success. Although they do actually seem to be doing even better now than when Le Guen was there, and having lost a couple of the better players he had at his disposal as well. Seen a bit of Lyon on the old tellybox, and they are a good team. Some good business they do as well, to get close on £45 mill for Essien and Diarra, and actually become a better team! I wonder if they can win the CL though, cos that is what they are surely aiming for now above everything. Edited November 3, 2006 by Benitez
Guest Anders Honoré Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 This guy at Lyon might be the one to look at if Benitez doesn't improve us this season. He really looks like a manager capable of lifting a good team to be a great team.
Spike Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 have nothing but respect and love for the man, and seeing what he's keeping on doing there does nothing but cement that
floyd the barber Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 anyone know if his coaching team includes bergues?
Stevie H Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 anyone know if his coaching team includes bergues?i think bergues is still at rc lens isn't he? could be wrong. if we don't win the european cup this season i'd love lyon to do it.
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Ged is a great fella! Did a great job at Anfield as well - nothing but respect for the lad.
floyd Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Made me laugh when Newcastle were linked with him, not so long ago, and the geordies didn't take too kindly too it.
AE Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Well we though last season we were "due" to play them, so it must be this season, in the semi after they have stuffed Chelsea.
Benitez Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 (edited) i think bergues is still at rc lens isn't he? could be wrong. Bergues is back with GH. He's his assistant at Lyon Saw him on the tellybox the week before when I was on holiday. Being interviewed at half time during the Lyon - PSG game. 2nd half he got told off by the ref as well for getting a bit carried away I think we missed Patrice here more than people knew! When he left and we got Damiano and that other blokey, they just never seemed to have the same effect. Bergues and GH are a team like Rafa and Pako are! Edited November 4, 2006 by Benitez
Nerik Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 We got Crevosier when Bergues left and finished 2nd the following season. I do not think it was Bergues leaving that led to our downfall but GH's inability to counter a slump when it set in. Still have great respect for GH though. He won us trophies and took as back near to the top.
Maharajkumar of Vizianagram Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 He must have made some cracking signings, considering how well they're going even after having lost some of their better players. Tiago has turned out to be a good player for them, hasn't he? Who else has he signed?

Tiago has turned out to be a good player for them, hasn't he? Who else has he signed? John Carew and Fred. Fred is injured now, out for a while, but he's been very good for them. Alou Diarra as well they signed, but he's not getting many starts at the moment, cos Toulalan is playing so damn well!

growler Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 interesting that GH has not bought any attacking players there. That really was the challenge for us. defensively sound (hyppia, riise, babbel and henchoz and hamann were all awesome.
Stevie H Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 lost their first league game at the weekend, 1-0 to rennes. juninho was sent off for an elbow. they're still 10 points clear at the top though.
Benitez Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 interesting that GH has not bought any attacking players there. Apart from Fred, Carew, Tiago and Kallstrom of course. Or are they all defenders and defensive midfielders?
jimmylibel Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Apart from Fred, Carew, Tiago and Kallstrom of course. Or are they all defenders and defensive midfielders? Carew was brought in as a wing back

John am Rhein Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 but as a manager he was average at best and nearly bankrupted the club buying a ridiculous amount of sh'te Yeah, winning a treble - really average, that.
