Skillz Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 (edited) From the ECHO Stevie: The spark is back Nov 1 2006 By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo STEVEN GERRARD believes the 'spark' has returned to his game after admitting he'd not been producing the goods earlier in the season. The skipper was relieved to claim his first of the campaign in the 3-0 win over Bordeaux, as Liverpool secured their last 16 Champions League place. And now Gerrard senses a definite shift in momentum as the Reds seek to maintain their winning streak. "It was a weight off my mind to get the goal," he said. "I had a few chances before and you could see I was getting too anxious. But I just had a feeling it was going to come last night. "My form has been a lot better in training and I knew it was just a matter of time before I took it onto the pitch. "The most important thing for me is always going to be the team, but I know if I'm playing to my best I can have a big influence on our form. "I've been missing something since the start of the season. I've not had the spark to my game, and I definitelythink coming back from the World Cup has been a factor. "It's more to do with missing pre-season. You're never as sharp if you don't get the full pre-season training, and it's no coincidence as far as I'm concerned that if you look around Europe a lot of the major players haven't started the season that well."After the disappointing Premiership defeat to Manchester United on October 22, Gerrard felt it was essential the players responded. With three wins, and ten goals, he's confident the side is starting to move into a higher gear. "When we were on the bus home from Old Trafford, we were all down," he said. "We knew we'd let ourselves and the club down and we got together as a group and said to ourselves there had to be a strong reaction. "I think in the last few games you've seen that, and now it's important to keep that going." The smile has now returned to Gerrard's face, and he couldn't resist an extra swipe at the ongoing obsession with how 'happy' he is at Anfield. "What gets me down is losing games and hearing so much rubbish about me," he said. "I could go on for several paragraphs about what was written last weekend, but I think in this case I summed it up well enough in one sentence on Monday. "We're all a bit sick of reading the same things. I'm sick of it, the players are, the fans and the manager is. "I feel really sorry for the fans that they have to see the focus put on me again in those stories, but what can I do about it? "I think from the reaction of the supporters last night, it's clear to me they're not taking any notice of that stuff any more and that's exactly how I want it to be." Refreshing to hear this honesty. hope this continues. Edited November 2, 2006 by Skillz
owenthomas Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 someone will make something from those comments that shows he really means he wants to play in Spain from January.. the lad can't say or do anything right sometimes (though he went one helluva way about rectifying that on Monday!).. someone mentioned on here the other day that it was the same (as in the rumours etc) with Fowler when he was in his pomp.. unfortunately i don't think it's something that's going to go away and the lads right when he says we're all sick of it..
DaveLFC Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Sounds like he's fed up with life at Liverpool and having to play on the right and will probably move at the end of the season.
DaveLFC Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 owenthomas said: to Spain though, yeah? For sure. Rafa will follow him.
owenthomas Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 then play him in the wrong position..........

RP Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 It's been a very good few days for the Club both on and off the pitch. I am often critical of the public face of our Club Captain, sometimes he really does send out the wrong message. But the way he has conducted himself this week has been exemplary, I cannot praise him highly enough. To be honest that goes for Rafa and our Board as well but Steven has done a lot of good this week, both for himself personally and also for the Club. Nothing but praise for him.

Competely agree and Im delightded that it has worked out this way. Stevie went along way on Monday by saying that the story was "b******s" - simple and to the point. Yes, the muppets would say that its bad to be cursing him being a role model, but when the tabloids are blatently making up lies, it sometimes needs straight talking in order to rubbish the stories. Top man this week!

AnfieldCop Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I have been really pleased to hear what Stevie has said. It has not been easy for him, but he has coped with it very well. Good to hear the Kops reception on Tuesday too. We are lucky to have a world class player in our team. Stevie deserves all the support he can get. We have to forget what happend (or nearly did) in the summer of 04 and 05. He is our captain, he is red through and though, he loves us and we loves him. The future is RED !
Dog Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 (edited) And following this announcement by Gerrard, the papers are now picking on his hair style. Said that he is now called Tuffty after the squirrel. Totally ridiculous. Think some of these papers have definately got it in for LFC.Why can't they pick on that tw*t Moro on his knees acting as if they had won the CL after a draw at Barca. The ball was in play for only 41 minutes of that game and the actions of most of the players on both sides was disgraceful but they decide that Gerrards hair cut is more important. pffft Edited November 2, 2006 by Dog

If I actually went to the matches I'd sing his name extra loud.
Bootle Buck Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I hope Rafa starts him at Left back on Saturday just to Feck with media.
Maldini Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Gerrard has gone way up in my estimation over the last few weeks, he has reacted fantastically to adversity.

Sion Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 (edited) Cue anti gerrard post: by me: Friends nephew, massive lpool and Gerrard fan, only 8 having his b'day party in restaurant when SG walks in Before the kid even mentions him, SG sends the waitress over asking not to bother him and leave him alone. How long would a pic and a signing take ...on the young lad who idolises him's b'day ffs? When you're paid 100k a week this sort of thing is in the job description, you can't turn fame on and off when you like it. Edited November 2, 2006 by Sion

Gunga Din Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 some people are comfortable with the whole fame thing, some people arent. if someone is in a restaurant with their family andfriends, or out having a drink, i think they have every right to ask to be left alone
