Phil236849 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 assuming something freakish i see a core of players being simply not for sale, ot it being too early to say if they might be for sale: Pepe, Finnan, Agger, Carra, Riise, Warnock, Aurelio, Garcia, Pennant, gonzalez, sissoko, alonso, gerrard, crouch, bellamy, kuyt. The following are the possibles and my thoughts on what sort of bid we would accept - any views? Fowler - free - 50/50 posskewell - £1.5mLe Tallec - [not heard anything about him] - we'd take £1m i think if offeredSinama - £1.5mPotter - £250kZenden - ?not for sale under 2m?Carson - ?not for sale under 4m?Hyppia -?not for sale under 2m?
Stevie H Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 i'd like to see sami finish his career with us. and selling carson, why? far more likely dudek.
Kahnee Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 i'd like to see sami finish his career with us. and selling carson, why? far more likely dudek. Dudek can leave on a free in the summer
Phil236849 Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 i kinda agree re sami - and he would be not easy to replace. my thinking is we spent so heavily last summer that if rafa wants to invest, there may be limited funds (dependent on champions league run this year and qualification). carson's having an impressive season, if someone cash-rich - say villa? - came in with say a £5m bid, would we be tempted to cash in, give jerzy a contract extension, and buy a cheap 3rd choice keeper and a momo mark II?

Phil236849 Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 Dudek can leave on a free in the summer with no apparent sign of a deal being offered, wonder whether scotty would be happy with a season as back up/cup keeper, after having a season playing at prem level... Can't see Dudek signing a new deal just to warm his buns on the bench that money would go a long way in poland in retirement
AE Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Can't see Liverpool offering him (Jerzy) a new deal. Carson comes back as number 2 and we take thing from there.
Alonso Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I think all the loan players bar Carson will go (if possible) along with Dudek, Zenden and Kewell with possibly Fowler and Hyypia if replacements can be found. Hyypia's case for being sold could be similar to that of Hamann leaving and Rafa may want someone younger in than Fowler. Also a few of the reserve team might go/not their contracts renewed too.

Plus now there is also the £3 mill or so for Kirkland, and hopefully a decent fee for Cisse to consider next summer before anyone else is even sold. The funds will be there as usual. IE - nowhere near as much as some teams, but nowhere as little as sometimes suggested!

Will we be after a replacement for Kewell & Zenden, or will Gonzales make the position his own?

IE - nowhere near as much as some teams, but nowhere as little as sometimes suggested! 1. i think this was our biggest summer of spending for some time, particularly as each deal will have various add-ons and agent payments, and there were a lot of deals.2. no report of kirkland fee anywhere. my gut instinct is we did not get more than 2m3. are we going to get more than 5m for djibril? yes, there will be some sums, but rafa is an ambitious coach... Hopefully Zenden will be on his way. Will we be after a replacement for Kewell & Zenden, or will Gonzales make the position his own? maybe not for kewell, but we could do with another CM if we lose bolo

Deals are normally structured with various add ons and the like mind. We made 3 major signings in the summer in Kuyt, Bellamy and Pennant. We ain't talking earth shattering here. I'd suggest the summer Cisse, Alonso and Garcia arrived was as significant iif not more so monetary wise! There have been reports of 2.5 up 3.5 for Kirkland, which is why I mentioned a sum imbetween. No idea about Cisse. We can only wait and see, but so long as he stays fit.....
Kopfaithful Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Dudek can leave on a free in the summer Isn't the same true for Zenden and Kewell?

Unless Warnock gets in and plays a ton of games i can't see him wanting to stay. He's at an age where he really needs to be playing, he's not a kid anymore.
Phil236849 Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 Isn't the same true for Zenden and Kewell? doubt it - kewell i thought had another season after this one. i would have thought zenden signed for longer than 2 years
Kopfaithful Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 doubt it - kewell i thought had another season after this one. i would have thought zenden signed for longer than 2 years I was pretty sure they signed for 4 and 2 years. I'll see if I can find out.
R A Softlad Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 i'd like to see sami finish his career with us. and selling carson, why? far more likely dudek. I agree with that - Sami's having an indian summer and is a legend. Dudek's number is up, there'll always be Istanbul.
Stevie H Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I agree with that - Sami's having an indian summer and is a legend. Dudek's number is up, there'll always be Istanbul.mate i'd love to see sami employed by the club in some capacity when he hangs up his boots. the man's a legend.
R A Softlad Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Can't see any reason why he wouldn't be kept on to help Hobbs and the like.
Kopfaithful Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I was pretty sure they signed for 4 and 2 years. I'll see if I can find out. i was wrong about kewell, he was a 5 year Offal Link . I'm struggling to find anything on Zenden!
Alonso Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Can't see any reason why he wouldn't be kept on to help Hobbs and the like.Same reason Hamann went, he wants to play regular footie and he may find himself behind Agger this season let alone next. Then again he may be like Fowler and except that he's only gonna be a squad player but at the club he loves.
AE Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 What always gets me with transfers is that everyone (IMO ) looks at the headline figure and never seems to take into account wages, length of contacts remaining on players moved on etc.... It's easy to say "we didn't spend much" and we got "xxx" back as we should have loads of cash, but what about the money paid / owed to players the deals to cover their "loss" of earning on transfers etc. (not to mention agents etc)Because we pay highly and wages are the single biggest expense we have then I think more account of these should be made before we can sit and say "we have £15mill to spend" or whatever. :Rant over:
Benitez Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 (edited) tbh, I think plenty take those things into consideration AE Which is why one of the biggests tasks Rafa had here was as much getting rid of the many players surplus to requirements on huge long contracts as it was getting better players in to replace 'em. And why now we tend to see players on shorter contracts than they where under GH I suspect. The books must have been a horror show when he took over. i was wrong about kewell, he was a 5 year Offal Link . I'm struggling to find anything on Zenden! Zenden signed a 2 year contract.
