Trevor Berbick, the last boxer to fight Muhammad Ali, was killed in Jamaica on Saturday by an assailant wielding a hatchet or machete, police said.

 

The 51-year-old suffered a serious head wound in the attack in his hometown of Norwich, 90 miles east of Kingston.

 

He was pronounced dead at the Port Antonio Hospital early on Saturday.

 

Berbick fought Ali over 10 rounds in 1981, winning a unanimous decision, and briefly held the WBC heavyweight title in 1986 before losing to Mike Tyson.
