Billy Dane Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 See Villa are holding a public training session for the villa fans today. SSN are estimating they have 10000 there. Great idea IMO in half term week. Got all the kids in, the future support etc.
stressederic Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Martin O'Neill has completely turned that team around.
Ostrich Man Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 is it andy who thinks hes actually a shyte manger?
jimmylibel Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 is it andy who thinks hes actually a shyte manger? I think it's Andy who keeps saying that, but mostly to himself. I always got the impression he was trying to convince his audience.
Ostrich Man Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 i reckon he pictures himself in a daisy chain involving o'neill, sir alex and rooney.
Jonesy Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 (edited) i reckon he pictures himself in a daisy chain involving o'neill, sir alex and rooney. that would be like a remake of the good (o'niell) the bad (slur alex) and the ugly (andy and rooney) Edited October 26, 2006 by Jonesy
New York Red Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Villa were the best buy in the Prem. Great value for money. They've got a superb owner and a superb manager. Just wait until Lerner gives O'Niell some money to spend.
RP Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 And they happen to have a huge property portfolio. Just a coincidence, I'm sure.
New York Red Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 And they happen to have a huge property portfolio. Just a coincidence, I'm sure. I'm sure that was factored into the price that Randy Lerner paid.
Michael Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 And they will get a fortune in scrap value when they melt down all the statues Doug Ellis erected to himself.
Andy @ Allerton Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 As I've said before I dislike O'Neill because he's very like Souness in his belief in himself - this is no bad thing in itself and in fact very very good for Villa - which is great for a club like Villa that he can mold - although they have history - in recent times the fans are disillusoned and fed up. They have no belief and their club is viewed as a midtable side - neither ever standing a chance of winning the league and never standing the chance of being relegated. He can pick them up, change everything around and they will come away from it a much, much better team and if things progress well then he'll have given them genuine top four aspirations. From this angle I wish him and his team the very very best of luck. My terror came from the fact he was linked with us. Like Souness - he would have had a vision and he would have changed everything around - and I haven't even begun to start thinking about forgiving Souness for all the things he chucked in the bin - all that history wasted and ruined - and what did we get after these efforts? A shaky club that didn't believe and it took Houllier to re-establish a good base and for Rafa to pick the Baton up and help turn things around. O'Neill could have been very, very successful at Anfield - but I believe that it would have been at the expense of a lot of things I hold dear about the club. Perhaps I am wrong in this - but I feel Evans, Houllier and Rafa after Souness really felt they had to bring the history back and do things with the fans and with the club rather than just going off on one on their own. Possibly haven't explained that too well - but the overriding dislike was the idea that this man had been linked and may have taken over at Anfield. If you go to that place every match over years - then there is a certain something that you can't put your finger on - Souness nearly destroyed it - but it's still there - another Souness and I doubt it would recover again.
Leo No.8 Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Martin O'Neill is an absolutely top class man manager who gets the best out of every group of players he takes on. In all honesty the great job he's done so far at Villa comes as no surprise whatsoever, it's par for the course for him. Clearly O'Neill would have been absolutely perfect for getting the best out of the current crop of talented, under-performing England players, he was my first choice from day one. Appointing McClaren instead of him was criminal. His poor performance with England comes as no surpise either - he's an uninspiring, tactically impotent dullard.

As a hater of the English football team i am delighted he didnt get the job. He would have been perfect for them. He could have brought them lots of success which is a horrible thought
Hector McDougal Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Do we ever have open training sessions? Sounds like a good idea.
John am Rhein Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Did O'Neill even consider taking the England job?
hagi_complex Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Did O'Neill even consider taking the England job? His comments suggest that he wanted it, but was never offered it. He's a great manager. It's early days still at Villa, but it didn't take him long to turn around pretty much the same squad as they had last year.
hideNseek Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 (edited) O'Neill a interview with England. Rumour was he didn't get it because he wanted his own people with him and only wanted to take charge of the full Englasnd team (not under 21's and all that). He was my choice after GED left, but I am more than pleased we got Rafa (though admit I'd never heard of him as I'm not really interested in European football). Edited October 28, 2006 by hideNseek

Andy @ Allerton Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 and? first defeat of the season...hes still a very good manager TO be honest - fair play to him with his post-match comments.
Leo No.8 Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 TO be honest - fair play to him with his post-match comments. That's part of what makes him such as good manager. No bullsh*t.
