I've fallen in love with the big Spanish galute again, in a totally non gay way. Not that I was ever out of love with him, just pissed off.

what'd he say then?!

To be honest I don't remember I was just sitting there thinking. He's hurt, but he knows what to do about it.

He was very very bullish about his record at Liverpool

saying that if you look at the previous two seasons we have improved....and listed his record..after each season he kept saying "so we win the champions league and get to the Carling Cup Final....not bad, no?"....."then the next season we are 24 points behind Chelsea in October, but we end up with 83 points...win the Super Cup, FA Cup and get to the final of the intercontinental cup...not bad no?"

Rafa

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is refusing to throw in the towel despite slipping 11 points behind Manchester United in the title race.

The Reds have made a poor start to the campaign and Sunday's defeat at Old Trafford heaped more pressure on the Spaniard.

Benitez has been criticised in some quarters for continually tinkering with his team, but the Spaniard has responded to the adverse coverage by defending his record as Liverpool boss and is vowing to continue the fight.

"Bellamy was injured, Gerrard was coming back and then we had the goalkeeper, defenders and players in front of them - Sissoko, Xabi and Gerrard - were the same players who played last season when we had 33 clean sheets," he told Sky Sports News of Sunday's defeat to Manchester United.

"If you change one player we can talk about the statistics, but for me the team in the last two or three games was with the same defenders.

"It is not a problem of players, we are doing the same things and it is something people maybe don't remember that when we first arrived here it was the worst Liverpool team in 40 years after losing against Burnley.

"Then we won the Champions League and were in the final of the Carling Cup. That wasn't bad.

"Last season we had 33 clean sheets, we won the Super Cup, won the FA Cup and were in the final of the Intercontinental Cup, so that wasn't bad.

"One year later we won the Community Shield. So in two years and three months we were in six finals and won four. I think that is not bad.

"If you change the situation, if we finish fifth and win the Champions League I think the supporters will be very happy."

Benitez feels The Reds are not far from their best form.

"We need to keep doing the same," said Benitez. "We have a better team and a better squad but the other teams spend a lot of money and we need to improve.

"It depends on the players and the other teams, but my idea is clear. I am positive and with the mentality in Liverpool we want to fight. I will continue fighting and will look to improve.

"It is clear if we can start winning now and keep going.

"I don't need to think about the title. We are 11 points behind and we are not stupid, we know it will be difficult."

Fine words, but his delivery of them got me lip quivering.

I need to watch that interview because I don't love him very much at the moment and I really really want to.

I just watched the interview too. I got the distinct impression that Rafa is really stinging from the criticisms which have been leveled at him this season and he was clearly taking the opportunity to hit back at the critics.

I have immense respect for Rafa and have complete confidence ithat he'll get the team sorted and back winning again.

Can i have whatever he's having ?

And where in that quote of his does he actually say "We are not far from our best form".

He doesn't. Typical media spin.

That's what i meant. The quotes that follow that sentence say nothing of the kind

Just watched it on the E-Season ticket, quality stuff. Starts off him answering question and he get's louder and more authorative, it turns into him lecturing the reporters.

Makes a good point about using kids in the league cup, when you win everyone talks about how it's good to see the kids and how the future is bright but when you lose they talk about you de-valuing the cup.

Me too and its certainly a little different to his usual prematch press conferences. There a definate steely determination there and I think hes cetainly had something to get off his chest and theres maybe a message to the players in there as well as the fans and media. When asked about whether he felt the current form was becoming a mental problem, he replied that there was no point in that. The ONLY way to change anything and win the next game was to make damn sure you work harder with a positive attitude towards changing things for the better. Its something you often see reported as him saying but when you hear him saying it like he did its somehow more inspirational than it always sounds.
