Goals from Corners

That is the first time we have scored from a corner for a while.

 

Bellamy should take corners from now on - some good ones last night.

 

We have a big team (plus Garcia who is good in the air for a man of his stature) and it really annoys me to see short corners or the ball not clearing the first defender.

I wonder how many goals get scored from corners in general, all teams, around the league.

It doesn't look like it anyway. Bellamy was taking some good ones but he was taking them by default as no-one else volunteered and earlier whoever else took them, was putting hopeless balls in. Gerrard usually takes them but they always come to nothing.

 

When we've got Hyypia and Crouch in the team, we've got to put a good ball in the box from set pieces. That's often how you win tight games.

It was good to see Crouch attack the ball with such aggression for thr goal. He's usually like a wet lettuce but I was impressed with the way he attacked it last night.

 

Pity about the other chances......

In his defence that bad miss all happened so quickly. When you are waiting for a flag you just dont have the same impetus as when clearly onside.

We are generally abysmal off corners - but very nice to see us score a couple in recent games.

 

Belly seems to be better at them than some.

I think anyone in our squad with pretensions of taking set pieces needs to be in remedial class so they can "beat the 1st man"

Bring back Gary Mac. If only to coach our players how to take corners.

 

With tall lads like Crouch and Sami (excellent in the air), we don't need to put the best balls in, good ones into dangerous areas. Gerrard should be at the end of them too, he used to score a few in the box from set pieces when Gary Macca was taking em.

If we could clear the first defender we might get some more set piece goals.

A few weeks ago, Speedy was playing in one of our games, and took the corners. His delivery was very good indeed, and all his corners caused panic in our opponents half.

Thought that he would have taken the corners last night, but not complaining about Bellamy's delivery either.

He seems to be able to weight his crosses pretty well.

 

It wouldn't even surprise me to see Bellamy play some games on the left or right......it is bound to happen on the odd occassion!
