What exactly does he bring to the table? Can't pass, can't tackle, can't shoot, no pace....

 

He's a nice bloke by all accounts and don't want to get nasty about him, but I really can't see that we're in any way better with him in the team.

He was hopeless last night. He just wastes a place in the squad and strains the wage bill. We need to swap him for a holding player to replace Hamann because Zenden brings nothing to the team. He's not a wide player and just gets knocked off the ball in the middle and struggles to make his mark on a game.

He brings a 1987 hair style and that's about all.

 

His passing is poor, as is his decision making and positioning. This is not the player who played well for Boro through the middle any more.

 

Would have been better to keep Didi.

He was getting into some form before his injury. Im sure its very difficult for a player to get back to their top game when you are not getting a much of a run in the first team.

Played well in the charity shield alongside the force of nature that is Momo. I don't think he's strong enough to balance the midfield alongside Xabi.

 

His passing in the last couple of games has been poor but in previous matches he's shown a reasonable range of passing and the ability to keep the ball moving and the tempo up. Not my favourite player by a long way but I can see why he's useful in the squad.

Even Ziege looked good at Boro. You can say with Zenden that "at least he didn't cost anything" but he would have got a signing on fee and a high weekly wage, close to what Daio gets. I hope we don't get stuck with him till the end of his contract but he'll be another player, we end up giving away.

I didn't think he played that badly last night - although he was very far from good. He was certainly no worse than Alonso, who isn't a scapegoat, so can escape critisism.

There were too many times where he over committed in pressuring in the middle of the park and was beaten either by the player or by a quick interchange of passing allowing Bordeaux to break the two lines of four we were employing.

I thikn Alonso's come in for his fair share as his form this season has been all over the place. But then again we haven't had any midfielder in form yet this season. So picking anyone out, even Zenden is probably a bit unfair

He's our fourth choice central midfielder. They usually don't bring all that much to the table. If they did they wouldn't be fourth choice.

Problem with him being 4th choice is that he gets rotated in to the side more regularly than he should be, particularly with Gerrard being played on the right. The squad is not strong enough to cope with the rotation policy, at least in that area of the pitch.
