They had a great opportunity to beat the Chavs tonight with their 3rd string keeper, yet looked very below par. Ronaldinho and Messi did absolutely nothing and they rarely threatened Hilario. Looks like the Chavs have wrapped their group up.

messi had a good first half. didn't see much of the ball in the second.

Ronaldinho is a pain to watch on days like this. No since of urgency and slows down play all the time when he pauses to see if maybe he will take on his man before making a pass.

There's so much utter feckin s**** written about Chelsea on here i find it embarassing but by and large i don't get involved as i'm sure you'll see if you check all the other Chelsea threads for my (non)contributions - but every now and again it's nice to play along.

just watched drogba's match interview.

Missed something about a girl and it being all depressing, something bad happen?? :(

from the beeb

Mourinho also dedicated the win to Vicky Buchanan, a member of the Chelsea backroom staff, who died in a road accident on Tuesday.

He said: "It's not just for injured goalkeepers Carlo Cudicini and Petr Cech, it's much more sad than that.

"A lovely girl worked for the club and shared moments with us at the training ground."

"I think we have to think about Victoria and her family and this victory is for them."

fair play to the man then. A solitary moment of humanity.

indeed, respect for that and a sad time for the family and friends involved.

funny cos what I find embarrassing is the way you react to it :D

It's what fans do innit, they rip other clubs, they obsess about other clubs, other fans do it about Liverpool, and some Liverpool fans do it about other clubs.

So I dont know why you get so touchy and precious about it with Chelsea. But it is funny to see you get wound up by it, so carry on :D

fact of the matter is on here i've 'stood up for' (if that's the right term)

Rooney, Sven, Henry, Lampard, Mourinho, Owen, Macmanaman, Fowler and a few others

yet it's the Chelsea thing that seems to get people going

strange.

Apparently Mourinho's utterly different in real life from his football persona.Heard from the sports editor at the Telegraph that he went for an interview with him,and he was utterly charming and humble.Said he was one of the nicest blokes he'd met.

Thought it was funny to see all the Chelsea fans waving the little flags Chelsea had supplied them with at the beginning of the game. Presumably this was in an effort to produce an atmosphere at the ground.

There was a great atmosphere- everyone time Messi got the ball there was a chorus of booing.

I've not seen the game (only the goal) so can't comment on the performances.

I should be remembered though that these two games mean very little and it came in the middle of two massive domestic games for Barca, Sevilla and Real Madrid.

And not a Prawn in sight

The question was " What was pathetic about it?"

Ok, the fact that you did not really see the flags until the dying seconds was a bit naff, but the question still remains " What was pathetic about it?"

The fact that the club had to buy flags for supporters, rather than them turning up with their St George's flags.

Nah - that's the sign of a big club - like taking the word Football Club from your badge and being a brand not a football club.

Ok, if I have to explain....

It was pathetic because it was a shallow, manufactured attempt to generate anything approaching a decent atmosphere at a football match. Tacky flags, tacky fans, tacky manager for a snidey sh*thouse club who alongwith their manager are making a great job of being an utter embarrassment to the game.

Handing out plastic flags is for greeting royals not watching and supporting your football team. It tells it's own story when a club who won the League for the first time in 50 years, the other year, have trouble selling tickets for their European Cup games and employ these sort of crappy methods.

Maybe the flags are leftovers from the huge turnout they had for their League title victory parade.
