Jezzman Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Just read the article below, which is publised today on Skysports and it's not the first time I read about Agger and how he's not really interested in footy, aside from training and playing. I recently read an interview in the Danish fan magazine in which he talked about this and said he goes to Brondby's site on the web to check the result from the weekend, he trains with the lads and play matches for LFC and the Danish national side and that IT. He doesn't even check the results from the rest of the PL matches (prob. hears about them at training though)... I personally find it really strange, but in some way I admire the fact that he can just relax outside the footy world and give it his 200% every time he trains and plays... There's some way from Agger's interest in football, compared to e.g. Carra eh Agger likes low profileBy Simon Fudge - Created on 14 Oct 2006 Liverpool centre back Daniel Agger admits he shies away from the spotlight when he is off the pitch. The Denmark international has been a revelation since arriving at Anfield in the last January transfer window from Danish club Brondby. Despite turning heads with his displays on the pitch for The Reds, Agger has no interest in living a high-profile life off of it. "I'm the same quiet, private person as when I lived in Denmark and I can't imagine ever changing," Agger told the Daily Mail. "I love playing, and I am enjoying being at Liverpool, but I don't like what goes with it. "I know it probably sounds strange, but I have no real interest in football, aside from playing. "When my career is over, I will walk away from the game for good. I already have plans, but all I will say is they have nothing to do with football. "That is my character. But there is a big difference between being laid-back off the pitch and how I am on it. "Something happens when I put my boots on and go out there. I become a different person. "I just switch on and come alive." Agger's abilities have seen him compared with Liverpool legends Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson, but Agger feels he has not done enough to earn such a tag. "I have been here five minutes and will have to do a lot more before anyone can make suggestions like that," he added. "I still have a long way to go to prove myself. I have very high expectations. "I just don't like talking about them, that's all." http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...kes+low+profile
Guest Sabre Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 He just has different hobbies and interests. If Carra didn't play footie for a living he would still watch every single match. Agger just happens to play it and its his profession. I think it's really interesting. Kewell is the same I think.

owenthomas Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 i'm with you Knox.. i just don't get it at all.. also, i didn't know that about Carson.. that's fkin strange..
Stevie H Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 it's not normal. how can you not support anybody? carson's odd.
owenthomas Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 i find it odd cos if i have no interest in something then i don't do it.. for instance, i don't like cricket so i don't play it.. i don't like abseiling so i don't do it.. if i didn't like footy i wouldn't play that either so how do these people find out they have a talent for something they don't like?

If you play the game you must, at some stage, have had an interest in it. If you have an interest you surely must support somebody in some way. Just plain weird and should not be encouraged. i find it odd cos if i have no interest in something then i don't do it.. for instance, i don't like cricket so i don't play it.. i don't like abseiling so i don't do it.. if i didn't like footy i wouldn't play that either so how do these people find out they have a talent for something they don't like?I could be, secretly, brilliant at, say Show Jumping, but never know.
Jezzman Posted October 14, 2006 Author Posted October 14, 2006 I could be, secretly, brilliant at, say Show Jumping, but never know. I tried that once at the pub and I landed with a bang and it hurt like hell
Guest Sabre Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 From the admittedly minor relationships I have with footballers who play it for a living, many of them grew up supporting a certain club or certain players but then when they started playing it they would either lose interest in their original club or support the club they were playing for. I would imagine that your support of a club would be more prevalent if you were lucky enough to play for the club you supported as a boy. My mate was a massive Liverpool fan when he was young (much like many kids who grew up in the 80s). He began playing for Coventry and supported them, losing interest in Liverpool, before moving around a number of clubs. He just supports West Brom now because his dad loves them but he has the most love for the club he plays for now and has done for the past three years.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 feckin weirdos. They should be burned as witches. That's how it would have been dealt with in the good ol'days

JohnnyH Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I remember Gerrard talking about players he knows who just do it for the money and it is solely a job for them. Outside of it they have no interest.
Murphman Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I have a friend John Ritchie who played for Enfield at the very top level of the non league game for years, he had a season for Shrewsbury after two years at Arsenal (where he played in just one friendly for the first team, it was in the feckin Noucamp mind!!) He truly feckin hates football and won't even watch the cup final on telly.

I just don;t get it.

wacko Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I remember Gerrard talking about players he knows who just do it for the money and it is solely a job for them. Outside of it they have no interest.I'd wager a fair few of us feel the same about our jobs.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Agger seems to enjoy playing it, but not really watching. I feel the same way about cricket.
Tommy Cockles Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Nothing strange about it at all. Fans are fans and players are players. Its his job, and he likes it and is good at it. Do you have an interest in how other similar companies to your own are doing? Well some of you might but most of you couldnt care less. Same as Agger. Personally I couldnt care less about any other aspect of football other than LFC. I dont watch other teams and I don't know anything about them.

hideNseek Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I see where he's coming from. I only listen watch and talk about our games. Yes I do hear about other results, teams etc, but that's because in the pub/work/papers tell me, I'm not interested and actually do not give a shyte about anyone else bar Liverpool FC. f*** 'em all, f*** 'em allthe mancs and the chavs and the blueshytebless all the red scousers and red followersbless all our players of today and yesterdayFor we're saying goodbye to all the other tossersAs back to our perch we will goThey'll get no joy from our side this season or nextSo cheer up my lads f*** 'em all Or something like that, lol
Rich Gobey Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Agger seems to enjoy playing it, but not really watching. I feel the same way about cricket. Yeah, and me.
CarraLegend Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 He seems a well chilled out lad. We need him back aswell, it didnt help on Saturday having 3 of this seasons better players out.
