Andy @ Allerton Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 As I've said - he's overrated. I know there are people going to say "He's got this potential', 'He's got that blah blah blah" - but given the hype around him despite his tricks he's not as good as people make out. He's an automatic choice for England - the MOTD team said "You play your best players - they'll always come through" Always come through eh? THREE FECKING YEARS!! THREE YEARS SINCE HE LAST SCORED FOR ENGLAND!! And the press and the coach and the media all think you can't not pick him and what does he do? Pathetic it is.

Pathetic it is. with poor support from the midfield you can not do much. Beckham should be in the team, he created most of the goals for England in the WC, dropping him is bloody absurd and here you see the consequences, no goals. That said, Rooney has had a poor run lately but despite that United has been able to get decent results. The best players should play for the country, dropping Beckham just to make a point of who is in control is a bad managerial move when it is clear he would be of use. John am Rhein Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 It was interesting what the commentator said last night - Rooney seemed to be thinking about doing what he formerly did spontaneously/automatically and that seemed to have made him less effective. Long may that continue, although I'll be suprised if it does: I think the 'hype' about Rooney is, for the most part, fully justified.

So Crouch was just jammy when he scored 11 goals in 15 matches then? Obviously not as good as Rooney who eclipsed Crouch's record of 11 goals with, er, NO Goals!! None! Not a sausage - but that aint his fault. Oh no. It's the service. Loads of other strikers have banged goals in - but he doesn't because of the service. Arf. Edited October 8, 2006 by Andy
Internationinteroperability Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Rooney sucks, he plays for Scum. Lets move on, aye...

Besides, most of Crouch goals have been against poor opposition, he did not score any yesterday though. That said, Rooney can only improve in the England team, not that I care.
rowlho Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 the brief time he played for Everton he did something brilliant in nearly every game Every player has his down side I just think he has stopped improving eg if you take Steven Gerrard he was still getting better at 20 yrs old Rooney has peaked already so it looks like he is p[laying badly. Long may it continue as I hate united and there commercial sky sports fans

Every player has their dark patch.
stressederic Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 He still looks like he's carrying a caravan around under his shirt.
anny road Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Gerrard & Crouch slate Rooney... not that I agree with Andys ramblings, Gerrard, Crouch and Ferdinand (yesterday) are trotting out cliche after cliche he is playing very poorly and contributing little to club and country United and England must be concerned His lack of goals for England in qualifyers and United in Europe is embarrassing for a supposed world class player
Cobs Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 He's clearly out of sorts at the moment, but he's a quality player.
Guz Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Of course he's over rated but he's only 21 ffs. He still has a few years before he reaches his peak but obviously the constant microscope attention won't help.
Andy @ Allerton Posted October 8, 2006 Author Posted October 8, 2006 Gayne pooney more like Lame Looney

He's never been that good for England, and over the past year or two, most of the forumites on this site would have put in better performances

Now that he is not in the team and England does f*** all offensively. How smart is that? Some might think he is s***, he might be, he is however the thing England has at the moment in the midfield. At least as long as they insist on playing Lampard - Gerrard together as they are bloody poor together. The midfield should obviously be built around Gerrard. Guest Terkop Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 (edited) Silly thread, he's only 20 yrs old and it's probably because of how good he is some people are targeting him. He's only had a handful of games in the past 6 months with injuries and suspensions hampering his progress, he'll come good though. Oh, and it's been 11 months since he scored his last goal and not 3 years as the thread author claims. Edited October 8, 2006 by Terkop

Give ovler, the goals up till yesterday were flying in without Beckham, and when someone takes all the set pieces, I'd bloody well expect them to have a hand in many goals. Beckham is now a passanger, his legs have gone and you can't keep a player for set pieces when there are plenty capable in the side. Crouch banged them in from Beckhams excellent passes. Besides, most of Crouch goals have been against poor opposition, he did not score any yesterday though. That said, Rooney can only improve in the England team, not that I care. Crouch has banged them in with and without Beckham, most of any international strikers goals can be said to be against poor oppo, its a fact of life, look how many times Charlton filled his boots against postmen. Crouch scored the only goal away from home against this lot last month.
Guest youaremysunshine Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Sorry, but this thread is extremely premature. Remember a couple of seasons ago, when Van Nistelrooy struggled? Everybody said he was s****. The next season he went on to score double figures. Form is temporary, class is premanent. As much as we hate to admit it, Rooney is most definitely class.
