Leo No.8 Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 ...about someone else spending too much on players and inflating transfer fees, how f*cking ironic is that? Calderon has got a point of course, but for them to be the ones to make it is just beyond ridiculous when its been them doing exactly the same for God only knows how long. Aw diddums, is someone spending more money than you. I hate Madrid so much, I really do. They are a truly odious club; like United but even more arrogant. Madrid Snivelling
Cobs Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 classic. how much did they spend on Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo, Beckham et al again?

growler Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 9 in the last 5 years? I think people forget that they won the first four european cups when they were the only team in it.

They won it at least four, I think maybe five times when there were only about four teams in the competition during its formative years. We are actually the most succesful team in European competition during the last 30 years; more succesful than even Madrid.

Trying to write off Real Madrid's early European Cup wins in this way is exactly the same as when Man U fans try and write-off our (and presumably their own) pre-"champions league"/"premier league" wins. The Real Madrid team which won 5 European Cups in the late 50s/early 60s is one of the greatest teams ever to play the game.

Well needless to say Cobs it was a little before my time, ie 20 years before I was born, so my details are a little sketchy. There were much fewer teams in it weren't there? Please feel free to correct me on the numbers...

However at that point in time I couldn't be arsed. 16 teams then - still not many and I bet they walked into the last four without having to play anyone half decent. Anyway not trying to belittle Madrid's achievements, they are the European Champions of all time as it stands. I just can't stand the arrogant b*stards that's all...
_00_deathscar Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 How many teams did our European Cup wins have? 32
