"Lord Stevens' inquiry into football corruption has been extended by two months to investigate 39 transfers.

The former commissioner of the Metropolitan Police examined 362 transfers which took place between 1 January 2004 and 31 January 2006.

The 39 transfers involved eight clubs and need "further investigation" before Lord Stevens will "sign them off".

My guess:

Southampton

Portsmouth

Bolton

ManU

Chelsea

Arsenal

Newcastle

Boro

Only deal of ours in that timeframe that I can envisage might require further investigation is Cisse's, can't imagine

any of Rafa's deals being remotely shady.

Some commentator was inferring the clubs involved in the "web of intrigue" are the same clubs who always seem to be linked together.

I'd go for:

Chelski

Portsmouth

Tottenham

Newcastle (if the woodgate and Boumsong transfers aren't dodgy then I don't know what is)

On top of that:

Bolton (from the documentary)

West Ham (seem to have a lot of transfers to the chavs and spurs)

and after that I would be plucking names at random, I suppose we could be involved but I'd be surprised, I'd probably be suprised if the scum or the a*** were either.

Can't really see us being involved. The only pre-Rafa transfer within the timeframe is Cisse's

and since I can't imagine anything underhand with Rafa's deals, unless anyone knows of anything

dodgy with Djib's move, then it's unlikely we are one of the eight.

Harry Harris claims he is naming the clubs and deals in tomorrow's Express.

Just saw his ugly mug on Sky Sports News.

I wouldn't believe Harry Harris if he said the world was round

Have to say, I thought it was a big mistake to mention '8 clubs' still being investigated,

since all the hacks and pundits (and fans like me) will have a field day speculating

on the teams involved. They should just have said the inquiry was being extended

for another two montsh and left it at that.

Maybe some of Houllier's dodgy dealings Cisse, Diouf, Diao... What about Ziege? is it going that far back?

We've already been done over Ziege.

IIRC wasn't there some issue with the Cisse deal?

Aye, I think the French FA and Police were investigating a number of transfers and his was one of them, although they did release a statement saying that Liverpool FC were entirely innocent.

It's more Oblate.

But that was tapping up, this is about bungs.

The Sky News sports guy said earlier he'd been told one of the clubs had paid an agent £500k to unsettle a player after being told by the chairman that he wasn't for sale.

I think United have been accused of that in the past.

Anyone else got a job where they're set a project for nine months and on the day it's supposed to be handed in/presented they can just announce they're not quite finished and are going to take another two?

PULL YOUR FECKIN FINGER OUT STEVENS!!!!

it's a pointless investigation anyway. the game is regulated by football club chairmen in whose interests it is not to rock the collective boat. it'll be slapped wrists all round, a new code of conduct in place and as you were. won't change a thing.

Say what you like about American sports and their 'franchises', but their system is a lot more transparent than international football is at present.

Not from our end, we paid leeds, they paid the agent they'd contracted to sell Kewell.

Also, outside the window of this investigation.

Does anyone know if Woodgate and Boumsong transfers are included? If ever there were 2 dodgy deals they were them.
