Gonzalez was great today, worked hard in defense in the first half, won a lot of headers, AND set up Bellamy. And then in the second half, he scores a goal, gets a lot of dangerous crosses in, and looked very dangerous on the ball. Do you work for the ratings department of one of the major newspapers?

What odd ratings You give Gerrard 7 and Gonzalez 5.5? Did you even see Gerrard in the first half? He redeemed himself in the second by actually looking bothered but he was no way our joint best player with Riise. You're on the ale. Reina - 7 - steady, controlled his area and gave nothing awayFinnan - 7 - made a terrible error which almost led to a Spurs goal, but otherwise worked very hard to patrol the right side and support the attackHyypia - 7 - steady. Was guilty of playing too many long balls in the first half but defended stoutlyAgger - 8 - was taking responsibility for bringing the ball forwards rather than just hoofing it long like his partner. No problems in defence and so composed.Riise - 8 - up to an 8 for the goal. Was worried that he would be lacking match sharpness but he coped well.Gerrard - 7 - poor first half, great second half. He just didn't seem interested in the first, waiting for people to play it to him and not closing down the full back often enough. Second half he was key and should have been that way all game.Sissoko - 8 - much better game from him today and when he pushed further forwards in the second half he was causing Spurs problems with his quick feet. Alonso - 7 - steady without being brilliant. Tracked Murphy well and didn't give Spurs a chance to build through the middle. Distributed reasonably well, keeping it ticking over. At times he wanted to go wide to Gerrard but Stevie was hanging too close to him.Gonzalez - 7 - wasn't really in the game until the second half but you can see his qualities. Quick feet, fast with the ball at his feet and a very good crosser. Also, very comfortable with his head. Composed finished after Bellamy's miss!Kuyt - 8 - yeah he wasn't sensational in the first half but his goal was just pure class and he didn't waste the ball today. Very fit too, always runningBellamy - 6.5 - I think he may be the whipping boy this week but he worked hard. You can see he's desperate to score a league goal but he's getting into positions to score. Today's counts as an assist! Aurelio - 6.5 - worked the space well and covered for JAR.Luis Garcia - 8 - great performance from the little wizard. May I just add that people are nuts to give Gerrard the top rating today. He was anonymous first half and only bothered when he got to play a more advanced role.

chiliking Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Sabre, I'm with you on this one. I thought Sissoko was worse and Xabi better than your ratings, but hey, we wacked'em today

Cisse Posted September 23, 2006 Author Posted September 23, 2006 Maybe a bit harsh but we were very quiet in the 1st half today. To give people an average rating of 8 for just one half doesn't add up for me. Back to the ale

shabirmia Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Reina - 7 Had very little to do but looked comfortable.Finnan - 7 Solid, if unspectacular performance.Hyppia - 7 Comfortable; still hoofing the ball at times.Agger - 8.5 Very composed on the ball. Gives us an extra option by coming forward with the ball.Riise - 8 Looked up to speed on his return to the squad. What a goal!Gerrard - 7.5 Only looked effective in the second half. Very anonymous in the first half.Sissoko - 8 Broke up the Spurs midfield play consistently. Looking better going forward.Alonso - 7 Solid performance. Still not up to hios usual high standards though.Gonzalez - 8 Looks good running at pace with the ball. Composed finish for the goal.Bellamy - 7.5 Is possibly trying too hard for his first league goal. Gives us a very good option up front.Kuyt - 8.5 Was constantly involved in our forward play. Great drag down for the goal. A Kop idol in the making! Subs:Garcia - 7 good controlled performance. Showed good vision for pass to Kuyt for the goal. Aurellio - no ratingCarragher - no rating
jfogarty Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I actually thought Zakora got the better of Momo today. He still played well but he doesnt deserve a 9

Zokora is a good player but his passing is a little wayward. He's not Carrick on the ball but he is a powerful runner.

He and Zakora could form a decent partnership

Sion Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Someone give me some analysis or something that i can use against some clueless spurs fans who reckon the only reason we won today was because of Gerrard, who was the difference between the 2 teams... bizarre.
