Benitez Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 (edited) all of em Steady first half, thought we where a bit slow like, but still in control. But then 2nd half BOOOOOOOOOOM! We where all over them and then totally against the run of play Jenas should have scored, so we bit one there. Shows the value of counter attack tho! That was their one big chance. All the goals where great, and Speedy for the 2nd time, follows in the play and gets a crucial goal. Dirk and JAR's goals where top top class, and Luis Garcia made some contribution again with both, JAR what a fecin strike Also I do believe our captain is playing himself into form.I know he's been a bit out of sorts so far, but as this game went on, the more he got into it. Oh yes, he's following Xabi into the 'He's Back' column of players. What a great game! Edited September 23, 2006 by Benitez
Gerrardrules Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Garcia again playing very well and adding two assistst to his tally. This is the Garcia I love watching.

Guest Sabre Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Yup, I was a bit miffed at half time because we were methodical without looking like we were trying to win, and SteG didn't really seem up to it. Second half was a completely different kettle of fish and we battered them. Not sure Jol had a clue what he could do about us. Luis Garcia was fab and I liked how we made substitutions and moved players around without it affecting our shape. Aurelio and Riise have a good understanding.
Toni Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Gerrard really helped us step into a next level in the second half. A special mention to little luis. He is a great impact sub and he deserves the credit for helping us provide those killer passes to kill off the game. Kuyt, expect more for him to be honest, had he not scored he would have had a poor game today as did bellamy

Ginu Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I mentioned in the player ratings thread, sissoko's passing today was top class... looks like he's put a lot of work into it
Benitez Posted September 23, 2006 Author Posted September 23, 2006 Momo worked very very hard out there, he saw a lot of the ball. He joined in with some decent attacking moves today as well. I forgot to mention another moment I loved in this game. when we where 1-0 up, Pepe Reina came out to claim the ball - knocking about 10 players down from both sides in the process. It was priceless. Pepe picks himself up clutching the ball, and there are players scattered everywhere
Guest Sabre Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 It reminded me of skittles! Danny Agger was wondering what hit him!

Martian Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Hyppia has become a liability. Beaten easily and dangerous passes across our box. Everyone else was a star.
Benitez Posted September 23, 2006 Author Posted September 23, 2006 aye yeah, first thing I thought with Sami was that he was a liability

badtodabone Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Quote Wasn't Momo fasting? yes but its between dawn and sunset so an early kickoff might be an advantage for him as by 15:00 he would probably feel weaker (i guess)
Dominus Maximus Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Loved the bit, in where Danny looked up and no one offered them selves, so him to the ball and dribled up to the Spurs touch line for a throw in, from his own goal. Quality... Love that man.. Does not look out of sorts or anything. And he is a starter...
Guz Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 For a team away from home, I thought Spurs were VERY good in the first half. Controlled a lot of the ball, defended well and threatened up front. Thought our midfield was very poor and disjointed. Very unlucky not to be ahead after Jenas' miss in the 2nd half. 2nd half though, bar one defensive lapse from Finnan that nearly led to a goal, it was as good as 45minute burst of quality football you'll see in this league imo. Our tempo, passing and movement was too good for them.
Jimi Rojo Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 The team were superb. Great 2nd half performance. Plenty of geniuses on here who criticise players who either got a great ovation going off or MOTM award from sky......after we won 3-0!!! Very happy with today!

He's just a classy player.

Rico Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It's Kuyt Strikeula! Huzzah!
Benitez Posted September 23, 2006 Author Posted September 23, 2006 Steve Mcclaren was at our game AGAIN today, although, with a fair few Spursh players and our own on show, I guess maybe it makes sense! I feel a bit sorry for Jermaine Pennant tho, cos these last 2 games could have really given him a chance getting picked for his country, being that Lennon is out for a while. But Pennant is also injured Ah well.
shabirmia Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 1st half - we looked comfortable without posing too much of a threat. Our passing wasn't quick and accurate enough to create any man advantage up top.2nd half - it must have been some half-time talk by Rafa. We came out all guns blazing and played like a different team. Spurs could not live with us on this performance (I doubt many other teams would have been able to).About our new boys:Kuyt took his goal very well and is starting to look more and more comfortable in this league.Agger - looks like he's been in the Premiership for a number of years. We need to realise his age and inexperience in this league though. He will make mistakes as he gets to grip with the game in England and we need to accept those early mistakes. The danger is expecting too much from him and putting excessive pressure on his young and inexperienced shoulders. Hopefully Rafa will keep him grounded.Gonzalez - starting to look like the player that Rafa said he is. Getting better and better running at pace with the ball.Bellamy - it's obvious that he has the skill and the hunger. He may be trying too hard at the moment and may need to calm down and relax a bit (like that will ever happen!).Aurellio - looked comfortable coming off the bench. Good understanding with Riise. It will be interesting to see how Rafa decides to employ him.
