not sure how Vidic has been playing this season, but my views of him are probably clouded anyway by the first 2 or 3 times I did see him play for ManYoo. He looked lumbering, slow and hesitant.

For the money, and the fact D.Agger is 3 or 4 years younger, I dodn't think there is much competition to be honest :D

Don't think Vidic has played at all this season, pretty sure he's not injured either.

Agger did another one of his "dummy the forward" to play it out of defense last night. He is so assured in posession. I have to say that I am very excited about him (not in THAT way)

By the way Crouchinho, I don't think Agger was signed instead of Vidic. It was Paletta that was signed instead of Vidic.

I think it was Agger or Vidic myself - Paletta couldn't be considered an alternative, he's only a young up and coming wheras the other two are both full internationals.

I think Vidic will prove to be a solid centre-half for United despite a shaky start, but there are plenty of central defenders of his type around. Agger on the other hand looks a bit special - the type of classy defender who only comes along every now and again and actually contributes to the team going forward as well as doing his defensive job exceptionally well.

Incidentally, is it just me or has Agger filled out quite a bit since last season? He seemed quite skinny last year but looks much better proportioned now, like he's done a fair bit of work building himself up.

There have been training ground and press stories that Agger is only too happy to mix it. He gave Ameobi as good as he was given last night, and never backed down, which was good to see - it was a good old-fashioned physical contest, with no moaning and no Yellows.

I don't think so.

We tried to sign Agger in the summer (Rick Parry said we enquired about him during the Super Cup, but was asked to wait a while as Bromby wanted to keep him), the intention was to go back for him. Yet still we made an offer for Vidic in the meantime.

I think we went for both. And you could say that Agger would have been the 'Paletta' part of the deal had we got both, cos Agger was only 20 when we signed him as well.

They are such different players. Agger the stylish centre back, good passer, comfortable in possesion. Whereas Vidic is a rough tough player, and Paletta seems more that type of player too. So I cant see that Agger was an alternative to Vidic.
