Johnny Barnes came to our office to do a talk on 'Diversity on Business' today. Unfortunately, I missed it as I only found out that John Barnes was going to be there afterwards. Colleague of mine who went along said that it was really interesting, and that he talked about how there was a lot less racism in football now than when he started playing, but that football still had an issue with homophobia.

 

He pointed out that if Wayne Rooney had verbally abused a teammate on their sexuality, nothing would happen, but if he racially abused someone, there would be uproar. (Wonder who the Uphill Gardener in the Manc squad is! )

 

Apparently he came over really well, not at all like his TV presenting, and cracked a few jokes too.

 

Mentioned that in order for the Arsenal squad to be more diverse, they need to recruit some more white players!

 

 

Really cheesed off to have missed it, it would have been wonderful to have met the great man.

I don't think he stuck around long enough, but if he had, he would have a pretty amazing selection.... Some of them would probably earn more than he does too!

Girlfriend saw him at Heathrow yesterday morning - well to be more precise, she walked straight passed him and the person she was with had to point him out to her...did she stop to get his autograph or chat? No...typical..
