4-5-1 or 4-4-2

i think it will be

Reina

Finnan Carra Agger Warnock

Pennant Alonso Sissoko Aurelio (Bellamy?)

Gerrard

Kuyt

just hope we get something out of it. i'm going with a chelsea guy from work and would love to leave all proud. 0-0 will suit me fine though

Honest I'm not obsessed but there's not enough goal threat from that midfield for my liking.

what about a 3-4-1-2?

carra-agger-hyppia

gerrard-sissoko-alonso-aurelio

garcia

kuyt-bellamy

perhaps not against chelsea, but for the future. with the option of bringing in our genuine wingers at home and moving gerrard central.

I can't see Gerrard being keen - its one thing playing as a wide midfielder, another playing as a wing-back.

I'd rather he played where you have Garcia with Finnan or Pennant taking his place on the right.

P.S. Did you mean to have Hyypia as the left-sided CB, rather than Agger?

i wouldn't want him to play as a wing-back neccessarily, although obviously he'd have to against better opposition. he could be used centrally too. with the option of finnan, pennant or garcia on the right depending on who we're playing.

i definitely like that 3 in the centre, whatever the combination, because i think it gives us a lot of solidity defensively, as well as allowing that extra between the lines player; garcia, gerrard, zenden, kewell even.

put agger in the middle of the 3 centre-backs, thinking more about his ability to bring it out than his left sidedness.

I was thinking about how uncomfortable Sami looks defending in wide areas.

tis a fair point. and i know most people have pretty strong reservations about 3 at the back for that reason, whoever the personnel.

I can't imagine Carra would have too many difficulties with his experience of playing RB and LB. Agger seemed to cope ok at St James' but I'm not sure who he was up against.

Don't see much point in trying to guess what team Rafa is going to pick at the moment, but I think he'll start with Crouch and Bellamy upfront.

With everyone fit I think this is the best side we can put out...and it looks very strong. It makes the injuries to Riise and Kewell even more frustrating, and I never thought I'd ever say that.

Reina

Finn Carra Agger Riise

Gerr Xabi Momo Kewell

Bellamy Kuyt

Agger and Kuyt will both play this weekend.

Gerrard will start on the right with Momo and Alonso in the middle.

Crouch will only come on later in the game if we are up, and that will be for Bellamy, trust me :)

Reina

Finnan Carra Agger Warnock

Alonso

Gerrard Sissoko

Pennant Gonzalez

Kuyt

subs: Dudek, Hyypia, Aurelio, Crouch, Bellamy

(fekk this only 5 subs thing)

4-3-3 in attack and 4-1-4-1 in defence. Alonso sitting in front of Carra and Agger preventing shots from that area (they'll shoot on sight), Sissoko chasing down everything in the middle with Gerrard basically man-marking Makelele.

The more I look at it, the more I wonder how we are going to keep our strikers happy. Its going to be hard for any of them to get a consistent run of games. Against Chelsea, its likely to be Garcia and one of either Crouch, Kuyt or Bellamy.....

I don't see why.

They will have known Rafa is an advocate of rotation before they signed and assuming we progress in the various competitions then there should be plenty of games to go around.

I think.. Was kinda hoping fo Bellamy too. Doh!

Real headache for Rafa this one. I don't see him taking too many gambles though. Tried and trusted I reckon.

We all know Rafa is going to shock us. Anyway, my bet is:

Finnan Carra Agger Warnock

Stevie Xabi Big Mo

Bellamy Luisito

Kuyt

Istanbul-esque isn't it? You get a nice strong midfield, ultimate tactical flexibility to switch to a 4-5-1, 4-4-2, etc throught the game, and jammy goals on the ready from Luis.

There is no way I would even make a rough stab at what our starting line up will be. This is Rafa we?re talking about, he?s capable of sticking Pepe on the bloody wing? (ok, slight exaggeration)

I would only play two out of these three:

Stevie G

Momo

Alonso

You're right - that would be a shock.

Bigger shock if we kept a clean sheet though with no keeper.... :D

Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyppia, Warnock, Pennant, Gerrard, Sissoko,

Aurelio, Crouch, Bellamy.

What we have to try and do is score first and take them out of their usual game.
