Woodsyla Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 It's a f***ing disgrace and needs stamping down on. As long as refs award pens for minimal contact players will keep diving. Both Van Persie and Giggs should have been booked yesterday.
Billy Dane Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Don't think Giggs made a meal of it tbh, but it wasn't a penalty. Van Persie however is a cheating cvunt of the highest order.
Bigal Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 OM, I'm having a go like cos all players do it. But Giggs was going for the pen.
Ostrich Man Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 OM, I'm having a go like cos all players do it. But Giggs was going for the pen.oh i know....but crouch, fowler, kuyt, bellamy wouldve done the exact same thing. it was obviously not a pen...sometimes you get em sometimes you dont....he thought he was gonna get clattered he started going down....all strikers do that.

You have forgotten Gerrard! He would have done the exact same thing. However, OM, having said that he drew the keeper out and expected the clatter, he was playing for the pen, therefore he was appealing for it. I dont think Giggs cheated or dived, I just think he was playing for it and he got what he wanted, saying he didnt appeal is different.
Ostrich Man Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 you say potato.... would woodsyla have started this thread if it was kuyt or crouch... would he f***.
Flasher Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 you say potato....would woodsyla have started this thread if it was kuyt or crouch... would he f***. Are you accusing a Liverpool fan of having a bias towards liverpool players on a Liverpool forum?
Cobs Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 would you be defending it if it were kuyt or crouch? would you f***
Bootle Buck Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Stevie may have been banned on day one.
Ostrich Man Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 would you be defending it if it were kuyt or crouch?would you f***if it was against us no i wouldnt...if against someone else i couldnt give a f*** could dive away all they want....as they usually do.... Are you accusing a Liverpool fan of having a bias towards liverpool players on a Liverpool forum? no im accusing him of felching shetland ponies.
jimmylibel Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Feck this. Where do you draw the line between easing yourself to the ground and 'diving'. I think it was the other night against PSV when Bellamy was fouled in their box in the first half but stayed on his feet and tried to play on. The ref didn't even think about giving a penalty and yet if he had fallen over he'd have gotten the peno almost certainly. Players going to ground easy win penalties/ free kicks and it's become the stage no that if you don't fall over the ref will play on. Personally I don't give a feck about players diving, they've been doing it for ages and it's not a recent phenomeon. It's part of the game. Sure I'll moan if the opposition get something against us due to a dive but then I'll have a sly smile when one of our players does the same thing. But if you're going to ban 'diving' I'd love to know how you draw the line? Even the most innocous knock can knock a player off their feet given the angle/ speed they are going at so how can you tell when a player has been legitimately knocked over or simply goes down easily. And Giggs was clearly fouled in the box last night so it was a definite penalty.
Bigal Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 you say potato....would woodsyla have started this thread if it was kuyt or crouch... would he f***. depends if they were playing for someone else
Woodsyla Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 And Giggs was clearly fouled in the box last night so it was a definite penalty. I disagree with this, he knocked the ball past the keeper and ran straight where the keeper was coming out, the keeper did everything he could to avoid the player but brushed against him and Giggs collapsed to the floor. Poetic justice him injuring himself doing it IMO. Gerrard, Bellamy, Garcia, Crouch all dive and all foul BUT they didin't play last night when I watched the two instances of cheating that led me to start this thread. I want ALL players that go down for innocuous challenges booked. Where do you draw the line, err on the side of booking the cheating get. you say potato....would woodsyla have started this thread if it was kuyt or crouch... would he f***. I certainly wouldn't have started it in this forum Wenger takes biscuit. It was harsh the keeper getting sent off. Harsh, if your player wasn't a cheating t*** he wouldn't have got sent off !!!!

Wenger amused ne when they played bolton, and there was 2 bad tackles one from a bolton player one from an arsenal, Sam and Arsene both thought the other player should have been sent off and their players tackle was fine. And as for eboue in the champions league final................

Giggs ran in a straight line, knocked the ball passed the keeper, the keeper went for the ball and got the man - penalty. Keeper didn't do everything he could to avoid the player - he did everything he could to try to not look guilty after knocking against Giggs. I honestly don't think you can be as black and white on this issue as you're suggesting. Not in modern football with the level of speed involved.
Guest Scot Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 If a player appeals and the ref doesn't give it the player should get booked. Simple as.
Ostrich Man Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I want ALL players that go down for innocuous challenges booked. Where do you draw the line, err on the side of booking the cheating get. so is it this form of cheating you want to clampdown on or any other aspects such as when two players challenge near the line defender knocks ball off forward to put it out for a goal kick yet even though the forward knows this he still appeals for a corner.
Cobs Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 If a player appeals and the ref doesn't give it the player should get booked. Simple as.what if the player doesn't appeal but all his team-mates do?

I hate diving and play acting IMO it's killing the game. The Portugal v Holland World Cup game was a disgrace and it's happening more and more to the point where it's now acceptable to 'wait for the contact' and go down. Probably should have put this in the rant room as it's mostly hot air but watching that cheating c*** Van Persie getting away with it yet again and his myopic manager backing him up made my blood boil.
Ostrich Man Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 so its just that form of cheating that annoys you then. fair enough.
Bootle Buck Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 If it was blatant why wasn't the Celtic Keeper red-carded. He was the last man.
NWR Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 No way was it a penalty for us last night, but Giigs did not dive. The goalkeeper was stupid going for that ball, he was just asking to be penalised. As pointed out, he tried to make it look like he was trying to avoid contact, but he was always going to Knock Giggs over. Fool. What we all hate is the player that dives and pretends to have been clattered when in fact there was no contact at all. This is usually obvious by the content points awarded for the swallow dive. Funny thing is that I like to believe that when a penalty is awarded that should not have been, justice prevails and the goalkeeper saves it. LoL That was the only thing the scottish git did not save last night.
