americanscouser Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 it would be different if Tommy Smyth was just against Liverpool and the players. But the man is just ignorant about the game of football. thought his "analysis" of Dirk Kuyt was fantastic if you are going to spout your useless opinion, at least back it up with why. the other chap at least thought Kuyt's mobility and pace would cause defenders problems. thought Kuyt showed very good hold up play tonight and has done for some time since i've watched him play.
Andy @ Allerton Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 The coverage in England was poor due to the clueless a******s commentating and yammering about it before and after and at half time w*****s You could tell they were dying for us to get stuffed.
R A Softlad Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Tommy Smyth jabbering on about the big name players being left out to 'teach them who was coach' was a classic in cluelessness.
Martian Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Agreed. The picture was horrible and the comments imbecilic.
Guest fredo Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 (edited) Agreed. The picture was horrible and the comments imbecilic. Tommy Smith pissed me off with his comments on Kuyt last night. He basically said that he would struggle in the premier league and that he was not a Liverpool class player. What a t***. Edited September 13, 2006 by fredo
downunder Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 In Aus the picture froze a lot (assuming it did with everyone watching ESPN round the world), but how come after it froze for say 10secs the game went forward at least a minute? Was there that much of delay......we didnt even see Alonson coming on, suddenly he was theer though. As for the commentators, my 2 cats talk more sense than them...but then that may be because one of them is called Rafa

And the commentators are obviously in a studio, not at the match - very poor match atmosphere. It is terrible audiovisual quality (I could tolerate the commentators if at least the quality of the broadcast was any good) and they do not deserve to be showing live CL games. Just don't kick the cat when we lose Edited September 13, 2006 by AnfieldGrass
Guest miketyson Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 No to mention the time/score now takes up half the fecking screen.. Happy days! HURRAH!

Just don't kick the cat when we lose I knew all the above, except I didn't know that there was a 5min delay, afte all when we watch US Sports here there is no delay to talk of, so the fact there is 2 conversions shouuldn't make it a 5min delay. Anyhow it's better than nothing. I doubt if anyone will be watching ESPN in Aus tomorrow, SBS are showing the same game.......
harpoon Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 I hit mute, I can't bear that Tommy Smyth...today I forgot until he called Zenden 'Sissoko' about 10 minutes in. And I can guarantee neither of them even noticed Agger's amazing defending either, simply because the camera didn't cut to a close up of him.

Good thing they dont do the prem games, all we would hear about is Abramobich and Moaninho. I knew all the above, except I didn't know that there was a 5min delay, At a guess I would say they allow a few minutes of buffering in case of delays.
Lee W Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Aye, Smyth is a bellend but he's no Robbie Earle.
Guest AussieGerrard Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 ESPN coverage is socking, the commentators are so piss poor, Derrick Rae is ok but the rest of them are hopeless.Tommy Smyth is an absolute t*** who knows nothing, all he does is say obvious things which everybody already knows. But the worst thing is that they turn down the crowd noise so there is no atmosphere at all it's like you are watching a game with a near empty stadium that pisses me off so much TURN THE VOLUME UP AND SHUT THE f*** UP.

Cobs Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 thought tyldesley was fine last night tbh. as was pleat when he could untie his tongue long enough to speak.apart from his 'Liverpool conceded a lot of goals/had a lot of trouble defending set pieces last season' comment early on he wasn't too bad
Romario Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 They were both very complimentry of us last nice. I was surprised at how positive they were.
Bootle Buck Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Tommy Smyth does his best to spoil every game he commentates in. He is fecking clueless. Ranting on about Gerrad being dropped and wondering why. The fecker couldn't even figure that maybe the game with Chelsea could just be a factor. I swear commentators are a waste of time anymore. The 90 minutes is filled with repetitive shet they spout every game. They alraedy have their own little descriptions and thoughts on players regardless of how they actually play. Maybe a bombardment of ESPN will get them to realize he is fecking GASH.
Lee W Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Tommy Smyth jabbering on about the big name players being left out to 'teach them who was coach' was a classic in cluelessness. I woke everyone up laughing when he said that, the daft pillock. Thank feck we get John Champion and errrr....John Gregory for the League games.
Frosty Jack Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Described Kuyt as "a bit hit or miss". 71 goals in 101 games. ffs.
Guest AnfieldGrass Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 (edited) I think anything Tommy Smyth says should be taken with a grain of salt. He's a wind up merchant with a comic twist. Just enjoy it. With a WYYYYYYYYYYYY! Edited September 13, 2006 by AnfieldGrass
Guest Deadlogic Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Are we talking about the "anfield iron" tommy smith here?
downunder Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Are we talking about the "anfield iron" tommy smith here? NO. This one is Irish Smyth(e?)
Guest AnfieldGrass Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 http://www.ecbafc.com/pages/smyth.html
MORF Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Someone should give Tommy Smyth a kick in his "old onion bag". And FFS, there is no 'N' in Reiziger, Tommy!!! Picture quality was piss poor. Made the game nearly unwatchable with the stop/start video. Sunspots, my a***. Almost, yes *almost*, flipped over to the Setanta coverage of the Werder Bremen game (who were they playing again?!).
Bootle Buck Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 why is that smyth bloke a pundit? is he an ex-player or manager or something? I guess ESPN back then thought his Irish brogue may sound more authentic then the Yank commentators they had. How wrong they were!
