Henchoz seals Rovers switch

By Chris Stanton - Created on 8 Sep 2006

Blackburn have completed the re-signing of former defender Stephane Henchoz.

The 32-year-old, who turned out for Rovers between 1997 and 1999, returns to the club on a free transfer, following his release from Wigan at the end of last season.

Henchoz has agreed a one-year deal at Rovers, and will bolster manager Mark Hughes's defensive resources which have been depleted by Ryan Nelsen's continued injury lay-off.

Hughes has already added Holland international stopper Andre Ooijer to his squad this summer.

But the Welshman believes Henchoz - whose free agent status ensured he was eligible to move outside of the transfer window - will boost competition for places.

The Switzerland international will not be a part of Rovers squad to face Sheffield United on Saturday, as the player steps up his bid to reach full fitness over the next week.
