Really interesting site that, some good reading.

e.g.

HOME INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

03/10/1964, Belfast, Windsor Park, 58.000

NORTHERN IRELAND 3-4 ENGLAND [HT 0-4]

Scorers:

Northern Ireland: Sammy Wilson 52', James McLaughlin 55', 67'

England: Fred Pickering 7', Jimmy Greaves 12', 16', 24'

NIR: Pat Jennings, James Magill, Alec Elder, Martin Harvey, Terry Neill,

Willie McCullough, John Crossan, James McLaughlin, Sammy Wilson, George Best, Robert Braithwaite

Amazing to think that Jennings was still playing in the 1986 World Cup.

same with Bobby Charlton - he got 15 of his goals in home championship games and a further 9 goals against Luxembourg and USA.

Aye,but look at the important goals he scored in the World Cup.His two goals against Portugal in the semi sets him apart.

Doesn't get more crucial than that.

Which were highly competitive games

That they were, but Northern Ireland is still Northern Ireland.

And Northern Ireland have gotten further in a World Cup than Scotland, and they've gotten to the quarters twice, which is better than Wales, making them the UK team with the second best record in World Cups :P

I'm not saying Charlton was not a great player but it seems to me Crouch scores against these small teams and he gets no credit but everyone else does.

As for how competitive those home championship games were look at the results 5 and 6 goals were relatively common, there was a 9-2 win over Scotland.

i think hes getting plenty of credit for the goals hes scoring but i dont think you lot will be happy until hes declared the greatest ever striker...now he plays for liverpool.....if he was at villa and southampton and was doing the same you probably be banging on about bringing fatf***fowler back.

it seems to me he's getting credit through gritted teeth

we all know he's not the best player in the world but if Rooney, Owen, Gerrard, Beckham etc... had scored against these teams no questions would be asked.

John Terry's peformance against Macedonia is proof he's a world class defender but surely by the Crouch logic it's only Macedonia?
