I'd play Lennon, or possibly even Pennant if he keeps playing as well as he has so far for us, on the right and Gerrard in the attacking role in the centre alongside Hargreaves.

It'll be interesting to see if McClaren has the balls to drop Lampard as his performances have been consistently sub-standard at international level for some time now.

I used to think the over-rated jibes were unfair, but he's really living up to them at the moment.

I don't think I've ever seen him put in a match winning performance in a big game be it in the Prem or the CL. I know its a silly statement to make but take away his goals and what do you have? An average player IMO.

He's a limited footballer who gets the absolute most out of himself at club level because of the way they're set up. He's not average, just not as good as made out but his goals tally for chelsea over the last 2 years is exceptional for a midfielder.

I don't agree.I thought leaving Beckham out was something that would get the media on-side,he'd been very poor prior to his dropping, and the media had picked up on this.

Lampard, however,is still the media darling, indicated by the fact that the Observer gave him a laughable 8 for his performance on Saturday,as somebody else has mentioned.

It would be a far bigger gesture to drop Lampard, which I believe he should do.

Couldn't carry Gerrard's jockstrap.

I agree. It was fairly easy drop Beckham. Weren't too many dissenting voices.

I don't think McLaren has the balls to drop Lampard. I'm not English so i'm not bothered, but it would be refreshing if he proved me wrong.

Lampard has the london press behind him. As i've said earlier in the thread, check out all the sunday papers. They all praised him, when the reality was he was awful.

One rag i read gave their ratings and beside lampard they just talked about how Cole moving to chelski would be good for "Lamps" as they'd forge an even better understanding!

How about telling us how he played, you t***s!!!

Outshone on a regular basis by Stevie, and now getting outshone by Hargreaves. How long before he's axed ? He's a passenger at Chelsea whose liabilities on the field are masked over by more superior players.

With Chelsea in the Premiership, Lampard has had it easy. He's had Makelele covering his ar$e, Duff and Robben stretching teams and Drogba bullying defenders. Its a cosy position to be in when you have players like that all around you.

Wheras everyone else good does everything themselves. I mean, it's not like Gerrard has Momo running around in midfield, Xabi to keep the ball moving and pick out a pass or even the best right back in the country behind him.

There are more and more fans starting to criticise him though, even if the media aren't , although they are hyping up Gerrard/Hargreaves/Lennon. If those three keep performing then dropping Lampard won't be that difficult.

Is correct.

CAHILL MK2

Would I be on my own in saying i'd rather have Cahill?

he'll never drop him, don't forget terry is captain.

also, he is a favourite of the manager. its like phil neville and wes brown. he is always going to be there, so if you support england get used to it.

he is the anderton of this generation.

Phil Neville has some use because of his versatility as a squad player, a better name would be Jermaine Jenas. How he gets into the squad is beyond me.

And Gerrard is vice captain and Lennon & Hargreaves are the new flavours of the month. If they both keep up their progress then Lampard will have to up his game as well.

can't get my head around that. what it says to the likes of nolan, reo-coker etc i don't know.

nope... I'd think Cahill could look better than lampard if he played his role at chelsea, probably wouldnt get as many deflections tho.

and jenas, still not sure what he's meant to be, players like barton and nolan should be picked ahead of him.
