I find it hard to believe you watch football. I've seen him be fantastic for Barca and argentina

Robinho was much better than Messi. When Kaka came on he was on another planet to every Argie, including Messi. He's good but not this football god that some make him out to be.

And I too don't see the fuss with Riquelme. If he was that brilliant he wouldn't be playing for an average Spanish team.

Messi is excellent and still a kid - Riquelme blows hot and cold, Kaka can be top draw unless he has a Didi Hamann sitting on his tail.

i've seen Messi more for Barca than i have for the national team but he's a fkin fantastic player.. absolutely fantastic.. it's not hype, he's the real deal.. Kaka's a fkin fantastic player too - better than Messi? at the moment i'd say yes..

Agree with that. Kaka is a wonderful player. Skilful and very effective.

Kaka is just a few years older, more mature and generally further on his career so I think its hard to argue against the suggestion that he's the more effective player at present.

Messi has the same level of ability, possibly even more but he's rawer and blows hot and cold.

The next few years will tell whether he becomes the next Kaka or the next D'Alessandro...

Messi is being used sparingly by Rijkaard et al - it's all part of a dastardly plan to make Barca even more difficult to beat.

The plan included losing 0-3 to Sevilla CF too ;)

Rafa reckons he is a s*** house and cant do it when it matters. ;)

Interesting, its true he has let himself down in many big games.

I must admit that I really enjoy watching him play. Its fantastic to watch him dictate a game when he is on song.

Totally agree with that.

He's a fantastic talent, but well suited to the 'big fish in a small pond' scenario he has at Villareal.

I knew he'd miss that penalty against Arsenal, absolutely knew it. Hasn't got the right 'mentality' for Rafa...

understand the criticism. does seem to lack a bit of bottle. he's still a very accomplished footballer though, in a similar mould to alonso in terms of his intelligence and passing range. great to watch at his best.

he, and the coach pellegrini, were the major forces behind getting a small club like villareal to the champions' league semi-final in the first place.

1) that does actually seem the case..

2) i thought he'd smash it home.. then the camera went close up on his face and i knew he was going to miss..

must say though, as is said elsewhere, when he's on song he's fantastic to watch..

His goal was utter class.

Messi is the best youngster in the world. You don't play as often for the best side in the world (and consistantly be one of the best men on the pitch) at 18 if your not something extremely special.

Riquelme is top class but you have to build your team round him (i.e. having 2 or 3 central midfielders who will work their arses off to give him the ball which means no width and, if hes having a bad game, little creativity). Still a wonderful wondeful player mind.
