the FA has fined chelsea £40,000 for breaching doping regulations, according to sky sports news. didn't catch the full story, but it relates to the mutu episode.

seems like chelsea were keen to nail mutu, as they had good reason to believe he had taken coke 'on at least seven occasions' yet was being tested for performance-enhancing, rather than recreational, drugs by the authorities.

seems a bit harsh that chelsea were doing their best to stamp out drug-taking and are getting punished for it.

40 grand - that could go towards the Salif Daio weekly wages fund.

The rule stops clubs screening their own players and giving the positive ones the day off when the testers come to the training ground.

f*** them though, yeah?

That's right.

it also enabled chelsea to sack mutu and claim compensation from him rather than support one of their employees who had a problem, as arsenal did with paul merson for example.

merson owned up and sought help & support. mutu denied it all and appeared willing to string his employers along.

i'm no apologist for chelsea, but if young players think the chances of being caught are slim surely they will be more likely to get themselves into bother with recreational hard drugs.

What happens to all these fines? With Chelsea breaking so many rules, fining them could soon become the FA's main source of income.

should be allowed to take whatever recreational drugs they like.....as long as theyre not performance enhancing

i agree. in fact they can probably only be performance, erm, dehancing.

They should fine them £40m for giving the No.9 shirt to a right back..

That's plain wrong..

He's even more of a centre half than a right back. It's purely disgusting.
