Gomez Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 We'd have to be quick, but I suppose the terms and conditions etc are all ready in place, so it's at least a thin possibility. Here's hoping. Am quite surprised about Kewell TBH. Hope he doesn't go, he's an excellent player who looked like he was finally getting his form back last season. Think Gonzalez is going to take some time to settle in (if he settles in) and we should therefore keep Kewell at least until that has happened. I also think we could get a lot more money in a years time if he continues last years form when he comes back.
Sion Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Anyone who thinks an Alves deal could still happen is dreaming. A few days ago there might have been a slight possibility, but now no chance. please mockering gods prove me wrong.
Guest Kuzco Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Selling Kewell could be a big mistake. Gonzalez could turn out to be a complete flop.

Oh I think Gonzalez is already settling in fine - even so, I'm sure having waited so long Rafa will persist with him until he's flying...as much as I like Kewell, I think his opportunities are getting more and more limited after this summer.
RP Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 (edited) Sell Gonzalez. Edited August 30, 2006 by RP

Guest Paris 81 Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 (edited) I'm past caring about Kewell; the guy is always injured, and we could do with him off the wage bill. Aurelio can do a similar, if not better job, down the left. Edited August 30, 2006 by Paris 81
fyds Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Selling Kewell could be a big mistake. Gonzalez could turn out to be a complete flop.Done bloody well so far, though don't you think? Especially considering half our midfield and most of our attack are new! As Gonzalez has not been a flop anywhere he's been and can put in performances against big and small teams, it seems he has enough quality and consistency about him. I'm happy to go with rafa on this one
Suth Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I'm past caring about Kewell; the guy is always injured, and we could do with him off the wage bill. Aurelio can do a similar, if not better job, down the left. perhaps true, but the irony of that is that Aurelio has had a few injuries of his own the last couple of years.
Sion Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Why exactly 'no chance'? The player himself still thinks/hopes it might happen in time. There are so many IFS and BUTS. Most importantly we weren't willing to pay what Seville wanted when we could afford it, why would we when we seem to have little left? Selling Kewell, Kromkamp, Mellor, etc... Won't raise more than £9m, they'll want at least £12m probably. Not to mention how quickly personal terms and a medical would have to be sorted out.

Firstly, offloading players now, and having got all the other names we wanted, we don't have to hold back to do a balancing act. Secondly, having been in talks with Sevilla as long as we were - even seemingly having agreed a fee for him but disagreed on how it should be paid, all the bits would be in place to conclude a very quick deal should both sides be willing. A medical can be done in a couple of hours and Alves would certainly have some idea of personal terms already and that could be quickly sorted too. I'm not saying this will happen, but if the will is there is very much could and very quickly.

Guest Cardie Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 If Alves was a possibility we wouldn't be trying for Neil. It's not going to happen.

Ed the Wool Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Blackburn rebuffed bid according to Yahoo sport.http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/30082006/1/rove...-bid-neill.html
fyds Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 so what you're saying is, we might sign Alves but we also might not.... interesting.Pretty much! Just saying if we wanted to push for it, we could still do it in time. Unlike Cardie, I don't think signing the one so cheaply necessarily negates the slim possibility of the other - especially if Kromkamp does move on in which case Neill would be cover.
Swagger Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 If Alves was a possibility we wouldn't be trying for Neil. Exactly, although Neill can cover centrally as well.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Hope we don't sell Kewell, not sure about Gonzalez yet.

Ignoring the cost where would we fit Neil, Finnan, Alves, Pennant, Garcia and Gerrard into the team? I could see an either/or for this season but not a both.
McBain Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Hope we don't sell Kewell, not sure about Gonzalez yet. I think Gonzalez will be a success. But we shouldn't be looking at selling Harry Seems like it's only a matter of time though
Guest Jack Bauer Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I'm not saying Gonzalez won't be a success, but it's too early to tell and I don't want to be stuck with a donkey on the left.
Guest Kev Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I don't think we'll see Harry in a Liverpool shirt again, or if we do it'll be brief

Rimbeux Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I'm not saying Gonzalez won't be a success, but it's too early to tell and I don't want to be stuck with a donkey on the left. Or having to spend big there in the near future
