Only Rafa could get away with this

Knowing this place he will be better than Phil Neal by page 3 of this thread

Well, he is much younger, isn't he?

And he is familiar with penalty-kicks... ;)

Lets give the lad a clean slate, he deserves that at least.

Excellent.

I was really impressed with him against Chelsea

I thought he played really well.

Has the potential to be the next Phil Neal for us. Possibly even better

A lifelong Liverpool fan according to his father, quoted in an Australian paper

He could have the liverbird tattooed on his a*** i'd still think he was a c*nt

But we should be used to this feeling about signings by now

Great signing if we get him. I'd much rather have him on our bench than playing against us.

So Neill, Bellamy and Pennant!! All players you only like if they play for you.

Neill would bolster our back four big time. Neill, Hyypia, Carra and Agger all for CB! Brilliant.

Well most of us (Aussie's) are LFC supporters. Lot smarter than people give us credit i say.

In a way - do you think that Liverpool have, to an extent, been bullied and pushed around in the Premiership?

Is it about time we had a few 'characters' and 'hardnuts' in to do damage to other teams like they do to us?

Is this where Rafa is coming from - as previously even our 'hard' players were decent lads.

We just need to sign Robbie Savage to turn Blackburn into a clean team.

Once he pulls on a red shirt, his past doesn't matter in my opinion. It's what you do in the shirt that counts.

Absolutely. That was clearly one of the things Rafa picked up from his first season, and started to put right last year with Momo and re-deploying Xabi to an extent. (He doesn't get pushed around, but he doesn't really give it out). Even Crouch was bought for similar reasons, albeit more in a football/difficult to play aginst way than for being hard in a fight. If anything, Stevie is too hot-headed to do that kind of stuff - see the Everton game. The best hard men/enforcers have always been more calculating - Smith, Case, Souness, Whelan.

Let's not get too sentimental or idealistic about this. Shankly and Paisley thought the same. Rafa will do what needs to be done, and 'winning the right to play' is as true today as ever.
