Andy @ Allerton Posted August 30, 2006 Author Posted August 30, 2006 ..and also Manuel Fernades from Benfica, although he has twice failed a medical with them over the summer. They've got a get out clause in the contract in case he doesn't recover.
Benitez Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 confirmation of the Fernandes deal, and Pompey are after Andy Cole. Pompey agree deal for Fernandes Portsmouth have agreed a deal to sign Benfica midfielder Manuel Fernandes in a move which could smash their club transfer record. Pompey could eventually pay £7m for Fernandes, 20, but have an escape clause to pull out if he fails to recover from a groin injury. Chief Executive Peter Storrie confirmed Pompey are also considering a move for Manchester City striker Andy Cole. Storrie said: "Andy is fit and one of several options we're looking at." Fernandes has been monitored closely for the past month by Pompey's medical staff who are concerned at his failure to pass two physical examinations connected with the move. Manager Harry Redknapp's desperation to add to his squad will see Pompey press ahead with the move, even though Fernandes is not expected to be match fit for two months. Pompey, whose current record signing is the £4.1m capture of striker Benjani Mwaruwari, have also underwritten the move with the insurance of a get-out clause. Since making his debut in the 2003-04 season, Fernandes has made 28 appearances for Benfica, scoring one goal. He made his full international debut for Portugal against the Republic of Ireland in February 2005. Storrie added: "We're completing the Manuel Fernandes deal and we're looking for two or three more players on top of that before the deadline." Pompey have also set their sights on Cole who has missed the start of the season through injury. The 34-year-old could be surplus to requirements at Eastlands following the summer arrivals of Paul Dickov and Bernardo Corradi. Storrie confirmed: "Andy is now fully fit and we need a fifth striker." ere

MarkD Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Middlesborough confirm signings of Jonathan Woodgate and Robert Huth Wow, an injured defender and a less than mobile forward.
johngibo YPC Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Middlesborough confirm signings of Jonathan Woodgate and Robert Huth didn't Huth fail a medical with them about a month ago, or was that another club

Benitez Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 6 Million!!! Say no to drugs kids... yikes! That is a hefty fee for Huth. BBC linkage Woodgate & £6m Huth sign for Boro Middlesbrough have completed the double signing of defenders Jonathan Woodgate and Robert Huth. Real Madrid centre-half Woodgate, 26, has moved to the Riverside on a season-long loan deal with the option of making the deal permanent. Long-time target Huth, 22, has signed a five-year contract after completing a £6m switch from Chelsea. Boro boss Gareth Southgate told the club website: "This is a significant coup and a big boost."
Maldini Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 £6m for Huth or £5.8m for Agger? There have been some crazy fees paid for transfers this summer, I think some clubs are getting dizzy at the prospect of increased TV money next year.
R A Softlad Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 He is Andy but Maureenho's only tactic against us when the clock was ticking down was to bring Huth on and go route one.
owenthomas Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Huth's a forward who's moving to Boro as his games are even more limited now they've signed Shevchenko..
Kahnee Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Andrew Cole's having a medical at Pompey according to SSN, if I read the yellow message thingie correctly
Tosh Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 He is Andy but Maureenho's only tactic against us when the clock was ticking down was to bring Huth on and go route one. so, er, what's Mourinho gonna do against us now? Tell Rafa that the translator has a cunning plan
MarkD Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 so, er, what's Mourinho gonna do against us now? Tell Rafa that the translator has a cunning plan You weren't watching the Community Shield game closely enough. England's finest, Cap'n JT, took on the 'Huth role'
Bootle Buck Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 The Ashley Cole Saga continues. It looks like it is off again. If I was Wenger I would leave him in the reserves.

Dunno bout that, if Glichy was fit, fine, but they have Hoyte at left back, who is rubbish. Think Arsenal are being a bit daft tbh. His contract will run down, and they won't get a better offer than the ones they have had so far. Its well and good making a stance, but it seems to have backfired on them.
LFCNeil90 Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Rumours of Defoe to Villa, possibly on loan..
floyd Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 (edited) Looks like Willie McKay has found another gimp, besides Redknapp and Fat Sam to make a bit of a killing (and a nice slice of fee on the side for...) Charlton sign Senegal's Diawara Diawara played in the Uefa Cup with Sochaux Charlton have completed the signing of Senegal and Sochaux centre-back Souleymane Diawara on a four-year deal for a fee of £3.7m. The 27-year-old, who previously played for Le Havre, is Charlton's eighth signing of the summer transfer window. "He's is a player I've long identified as a top defender," Addicks boss Iain Dowie told the club's official website. "He's got great pace, good ability on the ball is very powerful and will be well suited to the Premier League." Injuries to centre-backs Gonzalo Sorondo and Jonathan Fortune, and a three-match ban for Hermann Hreidarsson have seen Dowie move for extra cover before the transfer window closes on Thursday. "We think he's a huge defensive addition to our squad," added Dowie. Diawara was born in Gabou, but holds a French passport and will not require international clearance. He helped Sochaux win the French League Cup, and played in the Uefa Cup the following season. The fee paid for Diawarra is the fifth highest in Charlton's history. Edited August 30, 2006 by floyd
galés rojo Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Fernandes is a very good signing for Pompey Yeah he's a good player, thought he'd go to a bigger club so perhaps his injury has put teams off. Mourinho thinks he's great and i'd guess he would have signed him if he was entirely in charge of transfer matters at chelsea.
