Benitez Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Be interesting to see how he does on a permanent deal, considering he's already had a fall out with Jol when he was on loan (allegedly ) ere Tottenham are set to complete the signing of striker Mido. Egypt coach Hassan Shehata revealed Mido was heading to Spurs after naming him in his squad for their African Nations Cup qualifier against Burundi. The 23-year-old Egyptian striker spent 18 months on loan at White Hart Lane before going back to Italian club Roma in the summer. "Mido told me he will travel to London to have a medical before signing for Tottenham," said Shehata. "He will be back in Egypt on Wednesday to join up with his colleagues in the national team." Mido's hopes of landing a permanent deal at the end of last season appeared to be doomed when Spurs refused to meet Roma's asking price of over £5m. Roma insisted another loan deal for Mido was out of the question and so Spurs had no other option but to consider the full signing of the Egyptian. He scored 11 times in 27 games for Spurs last season and was a target for both Blackburn and Newcastle during the summer but the striker would prefer a move back to the English capital. Mido appeared as a substitute in Roma's 4-3 defeat by Inter Milan in the Italian Super Cup on Saturday, but coach Luciano Spalletti is understood to have informed Mido he is not part of his future plans. Spurs bought striker Dimitar Berbatov from Bayer Leverkusen for £10.9m, but Tottenham boss Martin Jol is keen to add to his squad before Thursday's transfer deadline. They are still waiting to hear if their latest offer for Middlesbrough and England winger Stewart Downing will be accepted.
Serko Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 There's a rumour on rawk that a liverpool player is also having a medical at Spurs today. The consensus seems to be that if true it would either be Kewell or kromkamp.
jimmylibel Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 If it's Kewell I think it's safe to assume that medical won't be passed in his current state. Re Mido - wasn't he kicked out of the Egyptian team not too long ago?
Benitez Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 (edited) Spurs are in need of a left winger more than anything. Can't say I want Kewell to go there. Kewell is back in training now, probably the best time to catch him - back from injury, and without having had the chance to get injured during a game Edited August 29, 2006 by Benitez
jimmylibel Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Spurs are in need of a left winger more than anything. Can't say I want Kewell to go there. Kewell is back in training now, probably the best time to catch him - back from injury, and without having had the chance to get injured during a game Is he? Thought he was out until November. Spurs transfer targets for most of the summer have been a target man forward, a right back and a left winger. So it could be either Kewell or Kronkamp. It looked like they had Lyon's Ben Arfa in the bag if they didn't get Downing. Hope we don't sell Kewell, think he's going to be important for us this season. That said he does have less than 2 years left on his contract so if we're going to sell him, now's probably the time.
Serko Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Also they would take the current state of the injury into consideration for the medical. If the medical says he's going to be ready for full training in 2 weeks, for example, then that won't be a deal breaker. Spurs have also been after Chimbonda and could see Kromkamp as a cheaper option. Jol probably knows a lot about him from his time in holland. II wouldn't like to see Kewell sold, but if Kewells sale allows us to get Alves then I think it could be worth selling. After all we have Gonzalez, Garcia, aurelio and Riise who can all play there.
Gomez Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Be surprised if it's Kewell. The unfounded rumours that Kewell is on his way out have been almost kopchatesque in their inacuracy and persistance. Reminds me of the Fowler ones. There is enough sold evidence that Rafa rates him highly and this would be the worst time to sell him. Secondly, didn't Jol slag off Rafa for signing Kromkamp? Wasn't it something like "He's a centreback I don't know why Liverpool think he is a full back"?
Benitez Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 It looked like they had Lyon's Ben Arfa in the bag if they didn't get Downing. still looks that way, reading Spurs site just now, looks as if Ben Arfa is expected to join 'em before the transfer window closes.
IgPig Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 (edited) Secondly, didn't Jol slag off Rafa for signing Kromkamp? Wasn't it something like "He's a centreback I don't know why Liverpool think he is a full back"? Think that was when we signed Agger, and Jol got confused between Agger and Kromkamp. Spuds are now saying its Zenden - thought rafa wanted him for CM cover??? huh? and they reckon he's "hard as f***" Edited August 29, 2006 by Post Kuytal Glow
RafaShanks Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 and they reckon he's "hard as f***" He is hard for a 9 year old girl.
Benitez Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 and they reckon he's "hard as f***" I think it's a Liverpool fan that made that comment
Serko Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 It could be Kromkamp as Lee who'se played at right back this season could be of to roma as part of the mido deal. Skysports Lee linked with Roma switch By Peter ORourke - Created on 29 Aug 2006 Tottenham defender Lee Young-pyo could be set for a move to Roma, according to the player's agent. Roma have held a long-term interest in Lee and tried to sign him last January. The Giallorossi are in the market for a new defender and are hoping to lure Lee to the Italian capital. Lee, who played at left back last season, has been moved to right back this term following the arrival of Benoit Assou-Ekotto. Spurs could be willing to do a swap deal with Roma as they are reported to be back on the trail of Egyptian striker Mido. Lee's South Korean agent Chin Sung-Won has said that a deal is close to being completed. "Tottenham and AS Roma have agreed in principle to the transfer of Young-pyo Lee," Sung-Won told the Yonhap news agency. "We are in talks with AS Roma on detailed contract terms. "You can consider the deal as almost sealed, as the only remaining procedure is the player's decision." Should Lee move on it could see Spurs make a renewed bid to sign long-term target Pascal Chimbonda.
Sion Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Spurs fans think Zenden, they also think he is a good left winger so...they may be a little bit short on the football knowledge. Can we play champ man game again???? Kromkamp - 3mZenden - 2mKewell - 5m = Alves! Note: 99% sure that won't happen
Benitez Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 Spurs fans are just going through the team.Someone there suggested they where linked with Sissoko a couple weeks ago, and that maybe it was him signing as a 4th striker
