Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 where does the line get drawn? Both red-cards in the Notlob game were for elbows, but I don't think either was deliberate. Everyone agrees that it needs to be stamped out, but I have a degree of sympathy with each player as you're going to find it difficult going up for a header with your arms pinned to your side. Ie each case, the elbow was thrusted back which I think is what got each sent-off & what causes the damage when you bladder someone's face. Fat Sam was spot-on with his assessment, mind
Rimbeux Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Yes you need to use arms to jump, but you don't need to throw them back or behind you . I don't think players do it to deliberately hurt people, more to shield their space, and hold off a challenge, but they are taking a risk that their arm flies into a face, and they know it.
yellow jumper Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 think they were both intentional myself. davies is probably the worst culprit in the league. he swings his arm as a matter of course. remember him busting sami's nose at reebok a few seasons back.
Cobs Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Davies should have been sent off before Hernan had the chance to tw't the fecker.
LFCNeil90 Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Davies did it at least 3 times in the match aswell the dirty little shoit
Senrab_nhoj Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 its when the arm making the contact moves back farther than the non contact one that makes the deliberate nature of the act clear... so in my mind Davies was lucky to be on the field as long as he was
owenthomas Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Both red-cards in the Notlob game were for elbows, but I don't think either was deliberate. Davies had tried to welly Hreidasson (sp?) TWICE and he also caught someone else BEFORE Hreidasson went and got stuck into him.. i reckon Hreidasson knew exactly what he was doing and went into it thinking "i'll show you how it's done".. it was intentional alright.. then Davies just returned the favour - again, as his previous three attempts were, intentional.. he deserved to go too.. look at it another way: how many times are balls hoofed up in a game from out of defence? how many corners and free-kicks contested? what about goal-kicks wellied up? they're all contested in the same way in the main - with players jumping for the ball - each of these players has to use their arms for leverage and yet, out of the weekends games, this is the only game to have made headlines for elbows.. so, more often than not, if someone's clattered with an elbow then it's by someone who likely meant it..
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted August 28, 2006 Author Posted August 28, 2006 I saw the US highlights. To say they're the bare-bones is over-stating it
