I have noticed Murphy is not even named on the Spurs bench this season. Is he injured or just slumming it in the Ressies. Considering he really wanted to go to such BIG club he certainly hasn't seen much action. It's hard to believe he was in the England squad a few years ago.

narr, he's not injured. Just not in any sort of favour whatsoever with Jol.

I was going to say 'out of favour', but he's never been in favour there has he. He couldn't even get into the starting 11 last game of last season when they where missing bout 6 players with the chits.

i thought it was weird after he went there the way he just got dropped - did he do anything wrong? i can't remember reading about anything he'd done out of order like..

Smurphy Smurphy

Was he looking for an easy life, his a*** kissed?

went to a smaller club to play for an Englishman with English lads and a game every week. That manager questioned his motivation, his condition, and eventually couldn't trust him in a 4-4-2, ended up on the bench a wantaway. Rings Jol and tells him it was all about the Frenchman, and he wants to come fight for his place on the bench, hears that Carrick and Davids might be off, and there might be CL footy soon.

Not quite the same anywhere else...

Was thinking about yesterday. He really did score some important goals for us though, so in that regard i would like to see him make a sucess of the next few years. A move to Wigan or even Villa could be good for him.

Decent lad, but never as good as reputed. Found out to some extent at Charlton and Tottenham. Never was consistent, nor terribly hard-working player.

Painfully average player.

I was delighted when we finally got rid.

If they prove themselves to be good enough, the argument will stop. Nobody argues about Crouch any more.

You must be kidding.

Murphy's attitude when he left really pissed me off, ranting about our foreign manager. Has the silly amnesiac forgotten that he was rotting away under the Englishman Roy Evans and had his career rescued by the French fella Houllier?

And then he leaves English Curbishley to play in the reserves of a club managed by another foreigner. He's a lying little hypocrite, and the only good thing about him was his bird (and the three winners against ManUre, cheers Dan)

I got the feeling towards the end of his time with us, he got a bit too full of himself. I think he was mistaking himself for Stevie G. Suggesting he should have a guaranteed first team place, spouting his shet about foreign managers and then leaving his English manager at the last hour of the transfer window reaked of an arrogance far outreaching his talent.

If his legs worked as quickly as his mind, Murphy would be a really top player.

Still think he would've been a great member of the squad under Rafa because he's technically very good and by no means a poor player, just not that great. And with the injuries we had in Rafa's first season and the number of games we played last season, he would've got decent playing time - certainly more than he's had since he left us.

Have you got a note of any quotes to back that claim up?

Do you have any notes to back that up!

I see what you did there. Very clever that.

Can I take it then that you just made the Danny Murphy quotes up then??

I didn't quote anybody, maybe you should come off your high horse and read it again.

It's common knowledge Murphy saw himself as a first team player yet Rafa wanted him to prove himself. Apparently Murphy left so he could get guaranteed football under an English manager. Somehow didn't quite work out that way.

He gave the ball away too much. I know Garcia can be guilty of that too, but he does it when trying a defence splitting pass or a quick one-two which will often open up a clear chance on goal when it comes off and he will also often get it right the next time. Murphy just did it when he was trying a simple pass so the risk was not worth the outcome even should it be successful.

Not on any high horse, as it goes. Just bored of reading inaccurate bullsh** about the circumstances surrounding Danny's departure. He never said he should have a guaranteed starting spot, so your suggestion that he did was just plain wrong.

I'm sure you're right and he never himself publicly said anything along those lines, but there were a lot of rumours at the time that Rafa had told him Alonso was coming and he wouldn't play so much and that this was the reason he went.

Rafa never told him who was coming to replace him, just that he was very confident of signing a new player who would limit Danny's appearances. There were no strops thrown, no toys were launched out of the pram. Rafa said that they had interest from several clubs and he would understand if Danny wanted to talk to them.

Unfortunately for those who would for some reason prefer more drama in the story, it was a perfectly amicable decision reached between sensible adults. No ultimatums were delivered and no threats made, just a parting of the ways.

I have my own thoughts on this, that maybe Danny knee-jerked a little and should have given it 6/12 months to fight for a place under the new Manager - but he obviouslt thought differently.
