Guest Ant Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 That we couldn't of with Pennant, Looks a real player and never put a foot wrong in the games he has played for us, his work rate, control, movement and crossing is of the highest order... Top Buy
owenthomas Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 think he's a cracking little player.. i've said it all along.. but Alves is amazing too.. difficult one mate if you're asking us to choose - i'm personally glad that we've at least got one of them!
Guest Paris 81 Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 He's done ok. Not been that overly impressed with him yet, though it's still very early days. Once he settles and gets a bit more confidence and belief in himself, he will be a very good player. My honest opinion, I would have prefered Alves, who can also fill in at right back, but he was way overpriced.
Guest snez1 Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Good against Haifa at home.Okay against Chelsea.s**** away in CL.None existant in short cameo v SU.Okay today. He's been quite good on the whole and is a breath of fresh air but lets not go over board. I think Alves is a quicker more skilfull player.
Guest Dirk Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 I reckon he should try to beat his man more often. He gives up too easily and looks for the pass when he should try and beat him. He's been good but not great.
lawrie Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Thought he played well today but he does seem to be cutting inside a lot more than I expected him to
DonRafa Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Pennant is a class act. He's certain to be involved in a lot of our goals. I rate him highly, and have for a long time. Alves is a very exciting player to watch, very direct and fast too.I'd definately like him to be added to our squad - the more quality the better. One thing he would have to cut out is his diving. That would get very annoying very quickly, and he'd have a bad rep in no time
Rimbeux Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Great player for the team, him an Finnan have a great meeting of football brains out there on the right. Very good fit.
Guest bigbak Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 He takes defenders out of the game while hugging the wing. It's upto our midfield to exploit the extra space. He links up well with Finnan

Good you imagine how good Pennant and Alves would be together down the right. That could be the future for us on the right hand side.

Guest RedLegend Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Pennant has started very well but I'd like to see him get on the scoresheet a bit more often. For an attacking right winger he doesn't get many even though his main job is delivering chances to others.
americanscouser Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 the answer is that if we bought alves, we'd have cover at both right midfield and right back. much like aurelio on the left. can play either position well and comfortably. only "problem" with pennant is he can only play right wing/midfield. not a complaint as he's looked decent enough for us and solves one of our major problems from last year. we could have sold KK for a few extra quid and maybe with that money have brought in another centre midfield player as covers. ifs and buts surely, but don't think we can have any complaints with rafa and parry's offseason work.

Guest Jack Bauer Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Weren't you moaning about Pennant when he signed?
Sion Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Pennant looks good, but without letting bias getting ahold, I would still probably prefer Alves
owenthomas Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 i'd love to know how people remember who said what about who on here..
Dule Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 I felt we were playing better in the first half once we started moving the ball more down the right to pennan.t

RafaShanks Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 (edited) Imagine Alves in tandem with Pennant on the right, considering what opions we have on our left hand side. We would rip teams a new a******. Edited August 27, 2006 by RafaShanks
KD07 Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 ..and carve 'em new mouths, and nostrils and auditorial orifices to boot!
wacko Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Alves + Aurelio would give us two great wing-backs and make 3-5-2 a very viable formation. There'd be room for Gerrard, Alonso and Sissoko in the middle.
