Guest mitya Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 What did Rafa say about his passing? And you seriously think he'll be 3rd choice? He needs to improve a lot to be a solid defensive back in the Premiership. His attacking skills are not questioned here, but defensively Warnock and Riise are prefered in that position atm, especially against teams with more quality than West Ham.
redpool Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Aurelio didn't have a good game at the back at all. Remember, the goal came from his side. Most of West Ham second half chances came from the right-sided crosses as well.If I am the gaffer of West Ham, would I want my side attacking down the left against Finnan or the right against a player new to the premiership? I personally believe Aurelio is a quality player and as he settles in at both left back and left wing, he will be a solid contributor for our club.

He will improve, of course, but we are talking about current performances. Nobody bashing the lad. I am very pleased to see a player of his quality(a potential Roberto Carlos successor in Brazil's squad), but that doesn't mean we can't point at weak sides of his game in a calm and intellegent manner. How many minutes has he played in the Premiership? Exactly! give him a few games, and West Ham are one of the best teams in the Premiership. No, it was remarked that he's 3rd choice, I'm betting at this moment in time he's second and by seasons end he'll be first. You don't buy a player and talk him up like Rafa did if your not looking to play him as your first choice.
oojason Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Aurelio didn't get much protection from Garcia - and West Ham did try and overload players onto that side of the ptich. Looked more solid when Gonzalez came on and helped out more. Promising start for the lad - looks to have great technique and good passing, as well as putting his foot in. It'll take time for the new lads to settle into the team - but it's looking good so far...
Guest mitya Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 I'm betting at this moment in time he's second Prove it! Seriously, look at my latter post. I think that expresses the generally supportive view on Aurelio.

Guest mitya Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 He's not third choice, that is the point I'm talking about. He is not third choise with Rafa, of course. But until he settles, it would be unwise, imho, to automatically push Warnock out of the squad.
monkey puzzle Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 If anyone picks Fabio for MotM they're mad.
lawrie Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 AggerBellamyKuytYep I'll go along with that. Also thought Aurelio looked good going forward but a bit suspect in his positioning. I'd expect this to improve during coming weeks
Ronnie Whelan Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Has the Man of the Match thread from last season been abandoned? I always enjoyed a punt on that thread.
Guest Rhi Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 The Observer gave it to Gerrard... couldnt f***ing believe it! Sometime's I really wonder if they watched the match. Agger was MOM by a country mile. I thought Bellamy was very good too, always running and giving us options upfront, making space for others by running the channels etc.
