That was GBH, he never even went for the ball. Thatcher should be banned for a couple of months but will get away with it as that idiot referee booked him.

Just discussing that with my da.

Surely there's a way around that?

He can't get away with that just cos the ref booked him?

What a scumbag. He's always been an animal, but that was shocking.

Disgraceful foul, could have easily broken his jaw.

the f***wit ref probably didn't even see the incident, but thought a booking would just be the best answer

I said in the other thread.... Man City should ban him themselves.... I know it won't happen. But thats disgusting... to turn a blind eye is going to make a mockery of the club and the FA. Players will likely use it as an excuse for getting away with stuff from now on if that was just a yellow..

Thatcher isn't even a good player.. The way he looked at Mendes after really riled me....

Whack a rival football fan outside the ground you're looking at doing up to 3 years. A player whacks a rival player and he gets a yellow card

at what point can police get involved? Its classed as assault anywhere else in the country.

And did you see him snarl at Glen Johnson?

Annoyed me seeing David James mouthing off to Sinclair, when Sinclair was clearly pointing out to the idiot ref what happened.

Lets see what man of the common people Stuart Pearce says about this..

No idea mate, as it was on a football field it seems to get totally forgotten about and goes under the "Well it could of been an accident" category. Ridiculous.

sinclair wamted the ref to sent off his team mate?

Thatcher will be in Pearces bad books as it is for that stupid tackle on Saturday that led to a goal against them.. Now this. Hopefully he will do the decent thing and condemn it.

I feel sick thinking about what that amount of force on someones throat could actually do to a person... Mendes is stable apparently. Which is obvious good news.

Thatcher will be a marked man this season. The new c***!

Holy s*** - i forgot David James plays for Portsmouth now!!

:wacko::wacko:

Doh!

Ignore my idiocy!

City boss Stuart Pearce said he had not seen replays of the offence, but agreed that Thatcher had fouled his opponent.

"I saw Ben running into the corner at 110 miles per hour," said Pearce.

"I want the players to play at a high tempo near the ball and it looks like the tackle was a bit mis-timed."

Pearce also said Thatcher had inquired about Mendes' health after the game.

don't say that, he will end up at liverpool next season :o

Absolutely awful 'challenge'. If he does something like that on the street, he'd get done for assault. Why should he escape similar sort of punishment just because he's playing football? The FA have to ban him for a good while, if they fail to act because the ref didn't see it they and FIFA (who implement these stupid rules) will lose all credibility, if they havent already.

As Redknapp said, it was so obvious what was going to happen. Thatcher had it planned from the moment he started running.

Did he connect with his fist or his forearm/elbow? Couldn't make it out.

Really annoying me the thought nowt will happen.

Does anyone know if there's ways round the whole thing about there being no retrospective punishment if the ref took action on the incident?

Could argue that the ref didn't see it - cos he surely can't have thought it only warranted a yellow

Posted

linesman was on the opposite side. Ref prob didn't get a good view.

I think it was his forearm, which as well as the speed of Thatcher running, he also swung with it too...

The F.A can act if the ref says he booked the player for an overly aggressive challenge, but didn't see the elbow. I cannot see Gallagher admitting he saw the elbow and then only gave Thatcher a red card so if he puts in his report that he missed that part of the incident, both he and the FA have a get out.

Hope the wee b*****d gets a 10 game ban.

If the F.A are gonna give Rooney and Scholes 3 game bans for being sent off in friendlies, then they need to really come down hard on what was basically assualt.
