Cheeky b*****d

Owen Hargreaves will reportedly hold a news conference on Wednesday to say he wants to leave Bayern Munich.

According to reports, the 25-year-old will criticise the German club for standing in the way of his move to Manchester United.

Relations between the two clubs soured on Tuesday when Bayern threatened to report United for breaching Fifa rules with their pursuit of Hargreaves.

The England international's Bayern contract runs until 2010.

And Bayern are particularly keen for him to honour that after losing Michael Ballack to Chelsea over the summer.

United are thought to be prepared to offer up to £17m for Hargreaves, whose stock rose with some impressive performances at the World Cup.

But Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness said: "Bayern Munich will never be taken for a ride and become weak at the knees as soon as a certain level of money is mentioned."

How to make yourself popular with your fans.

I reckon Bayern should hold out for £30M meself.

What a s***house.

That's what you get from somebody who sells out his real nation to play for a country where he's never lived.

£17 million for Owen Hargreaves!! Hilarious

In some ways I think that if some of our targets had been as intent on joining us as Hargreaves is the scum, they would have been here now (Alves, Simao. ) But in other ways, I think he is acting like a dick.

Either way, I hope Bayern hold out, he will strengthen the mancs. I hope the fact that it is getting close to the end of the window will mean they feel they can't replace him and strengthen their resolve.

he is acting like a prick.....he should shut his mouth.....Bayern dont have to sell...he is contracted until 2010 ffa................if he wanted away that badlt he shouldnt have signed such a long contract

if a LIverpool target did what he is doing I would be f***img embarrassed

He should be ashamed of himself. He's shown himself to be in the hand of the media, they lay into him for years, and the moment they wake up to the fact he's a decent player, he buys into the hype big time, and starts acting like he's a superstar.

Bayern dont like bowing to anyone, they sell when they want to, and would even let players go on bosmans rather than back down.

He's digging a huge hole, which he's not good enough to ever dig himself out of. Even if he goes for stupid money, he wont live up to it or the hype, and the media he's in the hand of with squash him again.

He is acting like a prick, true enough - but I can't help notice (as was the case with us and Babbel) that when aplayer wants to leave to go elsewhere, Bayern get terribly macho and use confrontational language that makes them look as if they are playing up to old German/nazi style stereotypes of 'Vee haff vays of making you see out your contract or else!' diplomatic and clever about such things, they ain't.

I think Bayern will really dig their heels in on this one. It'll be too late to bring in a quality replacement, and I'm sure they aren't short of money at the moment.

Regardless, £17m is an insane figure. As with Carrick, its roughly double what he's really worth...

I can't believe Man Utd will spend a combined 34 million on Carrick and Hargreaves. Two somewhat defensive midfielders. They would have been better off with Reo Coker who would do the work of the two of them.

They can have Diao for half of that.

£17M, what a joke. Before the WC nobody would have paid £5M for him. ManUre are a bunch of clowns, first Carrick for £18M and now Hargreaves for a similar amount. Personally I think neither are worth half the amount they're valued at.

English players are so over-priced it's ridiculous.

Red Nosed c*** Gets involved

Sir Alex Ferguson admits his chase for Owen Hargreaves is turning into a 'nightmare'.

Manchester United are trying to lure the Bayern Munich star to Old Trafford, but the German giants do not want to sell.

The Red Devils' pursuit even led to Bayern supremo Karl-Heinz Rummenigge threatening to take the matter to Fifa.

However, things could be further complicated as Hargreaves is reported to be considering holding a news conference where he will underline his desire to join United.

Ferguson is growing annoyed by the saga, but he shows few signs of withdrawing his interest.

"It's a nightmare," said Ferguson told The Daily Mirror.

"I knew it would happen to us because it seems to happen all the time.

"We made an enquiry for Owen before the World Cup started.

"He has the speed and discipline to play in the central midfield role which is going to be so important to us, and he has that English mentality which we are more comfortable with.

"Players like Owen and Michael Carrick can be at United for five or six years, which is what we're trying to build towards, bringing the age of the squad down for the long-term future."

and he has that English mentality which we are more comfortable with.

Which is strange, considering the fact that he's never actually lived in England.A bit like me having an Irish mentality on the grounds of my Irish grandmother.

This transfer for Owen Hargreaves is driven not by a desire to play for the Mancs but money. If he was so desperate to play for the Mancs why doesn't he just put in a transfer request? Well because if he puts in a transfer request then he would surely forfeit any "money bonuses" in his existing contract.

not overly impressed with this at all..slightly embarrassing..and yep id go for reo-coker instead also.

Reo-Coker is quality, he'd be perfect for United - he actually reminds me of a young Paul Ince when he was absolutely awesome, both as a player and with the attitude. He covers a hell of a lot of ground and has a big heart, but he's a very good footballer as well.

Loved the way when Essien's nasty challenge on Hamann was in the news and people were talking about his tackling being over the top, Reo-Coker made a point of snapping Essien early when they played Chelsea to show him who was boss.

I'd imagine West Ham would want silly money for him though as their club captain and star man...

That would be out of character for West Ham

Defoe, Carrick, Lampard, Cole, Johnson, Ferdinand... ;)

Worse than that, he only signed that deal last autumn, when he was three months away from being able to talk about a bosman with anyone. It's odd that a player they are willing to go to ?25m for now wasn't being monitored then, mere months ago. Nothing to do with the WC my a***, buying from the back pages

Bayern are bigger than ManU.. why would he want to move to the mancs for anything other than money..

I'd say they're more the equivilant. In Germany they're treated by every other team's fans with the same contempt.

The likes of Werder (Ismael), Leverkusen (Ballack, Lucio, Ze Roberto), Hertha (Deisler), Schalke (unsettled Lincoln) and Dortmund (Frings) will be laughin at them after so long being stripped of their stars when Bayern came calling.

Well they just need to realise deisler frings are meant to happen. Its a real kick in the ballacks, but ze stand to lucio their best players to the top club in Germany. I'll bet each manager there is constantly checking ismael for transfer requests from their players when the press start lincoln them to Bayern.

Bayern are in every way the Man Utd of Germany. Their fans live miles from Munich (the locals support 1860), they are twice as rich as everyone else, and they take any player they want from other German clubs. And, as you say, everyone else hates them. They also have a World Cup legend of yore on the board and a complete and utter g******* with a bright red head for a manager.
