watch him now come good again, now he doesn't have the burden of being a newcastle defender on his shoulders anymore.

I'll say what I always say, he was a fantastic defender before he went to Newcastle and even in the first 6 months of his time there he looked world class, held the back 4 together on his own, then serious matters off the pitch took his eye off the ball, so to speak.

 

Good players don't become that bad so quickly without good reason.

Before he came to England I always considered him a very solid defender. Strangely at Newcastle he looked like he'd become too big and heavy.

 

He looked a lot slower and more cumbersome, not actually fat but a bit unbalanced - you only have to remember him lolloping around the pitch against us last season and hauling Crouch down for the pen.

 

I wouldn't be surprised to see him come good again at Juve though actually. A season in Serie B may actually help him bed in nicely...
