Lyon have moved quickly to find a replacement for Real Madrid bound Mahamadou Diarra.

The French champions have conceded defeat in their bid to keep the Malian international and they have now moved to seal a deal for Alou Diarra from Lens.

The former Liverpool midfielder had looked set to move to Roma, but now that deal has been hijacked by Lyon and they have already agreed a four-year deal with the 24-year-old.

Lyon are believed to have agreed a fee in the region of ?7 million (£4.7 million) with Lens.

Alou Diarra, no relation to Mahamadou, is expected to be unveiled in the next 24 hours, when Real should also announce they have landed the Lyon man.

We sold him because a clause in his contract with us was triggered so we wouldn't have had the option of putting a clause in.

Don't remember that, what clause? They met a certain fee?

I thought we were in talks for months about whether he was leaving or not, surely that wouldn't have come about if a clause had been triggered.

Why was he never given an opportunity here?

Esp since it took a bit of work to bring him in in the first place..

He was almost kept last summer as far as I remember, but whenever I think of that I also remember that if he had stayed with us we probably wouldn't have gotten Momo.
