Does anyone know when Kewell is likely to be back? All gone a bit quiet on him recently.

Soon I hope, I actually miss Harry and him returning provides more competition.

yeah, with gonzalez, aurelio and pennant we really miss that edge kewell gives us. if only we had squard members that could beat players with skill or speed and lay in some good crosses. kewell can't come back soon enough for me

I heard on the telly over here Robbie Slater said that he wont be playing until November, i don't know if it was just a slip of the tongue but no one corrected him.

I heard that too. hope its wrong but they referred to his groin problem which is not what is keeping him out as far as we know. He is supposed to be available early september and i for one hope he is because for all his problems with us he is a very intelligent player that worked very well for us last season.

I also believe he can help "speedy" a lot in his first season. Having said all that i expect this to be Harry's last year.

I wish people will get of his back, he did well last season for us and saved our arses a few times, at the end of the day he is a Liverpool player and he does try his hardest, the lad has been unlucky with injuries and its not his fault that he has suffered badly.

The fickle fans at our club must really knock his confidence right down when he is booed and we shouldn't do that, so lets get behind our team and the players.

when kewell is half fit for us he performs well - unfortunately he is in a physically poor way...feel bad for him he was one of the best youngsters i've ever seen.....

he is doing his best i believe and he has such quality.

just wish we had him when he was 19.....

It's interesting analysing Harry's contributions to our game.

Many look at assists and goals, and have slammed Harry for his "poor statistics".

My view is that Harry's big plus last season was his contribution to our "flowing movements". He's great on the ball. Our finishing was poor last season. It was this lack of flowing movement, emanating from our midfield, which stiffled our strikers against Sheffield U on the weekend.

I, for one, am looking forward to Harry's fully fit return.

...and I thought you didn't like him :)

hehe

I like him. When he's on song he's one of the best footballers int he league and a great assett.

but he's not on song very often nor is he fit very often. I said from the start that he wouldn't and couldn't delivery consistently for us and I've seen nothing to change my mind about that.

Just seen this

From Sportal.com.au

Socceroos star Harry Kewell has vowed to return from injury for Liverpool better than ever.

Kewell is sidelined after succumbing to injury during Australia's World Cup finals campaign in Germany in June, and is not expected to make a comeback for the Reds for another couple of months.

But having watched his team snatch a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday, Kewell told The Daily Telegraph he believes he hasn't yet reached the peak of his powers.

"When I joined Liverpool in July 2003 I was the club's top scorer at the start of November on nine goals," Kewell said. "Since than I haven't been fully fit at any point and my form has suffered."

"I know what I can do and as long as I'm fully fit my form will take care of itself. No one has seen the best of Harry Kewell yet. It's so frustrating not being able to join the rest of the Liverpool squad and get a proper pre-season done but there's not much I can do about it."

"I've no idea how long it will take. But I won't be taking any short cuts this time. Doctor Mark Waller and the Liverpool medical team have been brilliant with me since the World Cup and are determined to get me back to full fitness no matter how long it takes."

The 27-year-old has returned to training in the pool and on the exercise bike after completing a six-week course of antibiotics following the operation he underwent to have fluid drained from his left foot after the World Cup.

In one sense I am glad both he and the club are taking their time to get this right but i have to say its bloody frustrating. No doubt its incredibly frustrating for him.

I would think LFC are spewing at the OZ medical team for misdiagnosing his condition. From what i can gather if the "septic arthritis" condition continued for too long it could of become very serious eg loss of limb

Is it certain that it was mis-diagnosed? I know one of the Aussie players (Viduka?) said it was gout, but how do we know that he knew exactly what was going on?

Perhaps but it wasnt until he arrived back at Melwood that the correct diagnosis was made. This was due to ongoing pain which should of receded once the treatment the OZ medics had him on. Once that didnt work they had to look at alternatives. So the initial diagnosis was incorrect.

He says this every time he's injured. I'm not saying it's his fault,it clearly isn't,but there used to be a time when having a good injury record was a prerequisite for signing for us.

He doesn't have to be on song every week to be an asset though. Infact he never has been on song every week, he's always been an inconsistent player since his Leeds days. He wasnt on song every week last season but provided a balance to the midfield and kept posession quite well. He's lost so much of his pace and desire to get past full backs that he had a few years ago but the problem is that we had that on both wings (Gerrard and Kewell). He may not have a long term future at the club but he'll provide a very useful option in comparison to Gonzalez [and Aurelio?].
