Slow out of the blocks today, cringed like f*** watching Risse in agony - could have sworn it was a break, john Gregory is a crap commentator - clueless, piss poor defending for their goal, who chose the tags for Robbie and Speedy's boots? , could argue all day as to whether that peno should have been awarded, sweetly taken by god - take the point but we should have nailed then for three, opportunity lost.

Happy ?

Don't think it is my first post but it has been so long it feels like it may as well be!

Pity about the result and the performance, but understandable when we have three fifths of our defence missing and a very important match mid week.

Oh and it drives me nuts when commentators insist we are bad at defending set pieces, when it is common knowledge that LIVERPOOL FC HAD THE BEST DEFENSIVE RECORD AGAINST SET PEICES IN THE PREMIERSHIP LAST SEASON yet we still get branded as being crap! OOO! However the defence for the goal was awful.....imagine how pissed off Rafa was!

Anyway, thought nothing came off for Robbie today so couldnt bear to watch him take the pen. Momo wasnt the player we know and love today but blame Zenden for that as he disappeared totally. Most performances were below par but think it was always going to be a tough game and was their cup final as they announced their intentions to the league.

So enough waffle and wont post again for god knows how long probably!

I fekin Love Danny Agger. Think he is the champ he is boss, and he should start. I love Sami, but Agger is the future, and as long as he keeps it up he should play. Also With Agger being faster and better with the ball we can justify playing a central midfield of Alonso and Gerrad without a Sissoko to clean up. Giving us two strikers instead of the 451. I don't like Gerrard on the right. Just because he can doesn't mean he should. He can also play right back but we don't use him there?

Use him in the center as he should, then use Pennant...

Reina

Finnan Agger Carragher Riise/Aurelio

Pennant/Garcia Gerrard Alonso Gonzalez

Regarding defending from set pieces, why is everytime we concede a goal from a set piece people question the "Zonal marking system" but when any other team concedes they don't question and I quote the "Man marking system".

Andy Gray you are a pillock, take a bow son! ;)

I ain't no lurker, I is just quiet. on a serious note though. poor game. not too devastated by the performance. Zenden esp was nothing special but bellamy worked his balls off. poor start but at least the odds are better now for #19 :)

Re Agger, I agree. One of the only LFC players in recent memory who, when asked by the captain to hand over, decided to keep the ball at his feet and keep running. And he was right in his choice to do so. Well done to the lads last night, a crop of new talent introduced into the prem against a tough side with plenty of history. And we controlled the second half, unlucky not to come away with a win.

OK Andy I accept your challenge so here is my very first post on YNWA.

For me yesterday's match was a decent start to the season. As usual, we don't all see the same game and we get caught up in the journo's fantasy that wants the promoted sides to tan the hides of us more established teams. Sheffield United did well yesterday with plenty of first day, home enthusiasm but the game stats don't back up the view that they were better then us.

There were few chances in the game but the best ones came our way. Remember that Robbie should have scored when he tripped over his own feet in the first half. Bellamy shot wide when it could easliy have gone in. Sammi hit the post in the second and Robbie could have scored again.

We had 12 corners and they had none. We had more shots on goal than they did and more on target.

Yes we started slowly and with an eye on Tuesday but let's wait until we get motoring before we declare us as finished like some perople care to do.

Well that's it - hope it was OK for a first attempt.

Great first post! Post more often!

aye it was (though i don't necessarily agree!) - and he should! they all should, some excellent points there and i agree with Hels too about the way a big thing is made out of 'zonal marking' everytime we concede from a free kick or corner and yet it's never mentioned when they're saying how good our defence is!

I think Rafa made all the right decisions, and his game plan was wrecked when Carra and Riise were injured.

Bring on Haifa!

Agreed, conceding a soft goal like we did was always going to be an issue when we lost half of our defence within 30 mins. The naysayers can overlook that little fact as much as they want but that is the reason we only drew.

I think we'll play Crouch and Bellamy up front against Maccabi - they'll be searching for a goal and if we can put pressure back on them and score an away goal we'll be through.

Not my first post but like to take my time and see whats going on first, get a general feel for the forum.

Cringed when I saw Riise on the deck holding his ankle. Wasn't so worried about Carra coz he's a big tough scouse b****rd and doesn't need molly coddling. Expected the verbal excrement from Neil Warnock and was wondering how many times he'll get a touchline ban this season? I'll go for three.
