This is my first post at this forum. I wanted the first one to be special :D . If anyone wants to know how to take a penatly, let'em see Robbie in action. No hesitation and cool as can be.

I hate watching him take penalties.

i know what you mean, used to be the same with Owen as well

Yes, but Robbie usually scores them, unlike the mercenary midget!

Unfortunately for our Robbie, it was by far the best thing he did today. better to come from the lad.

I sincerely hope match sharpness and a bit more confidence will resolve this.

He seems to have studied Litmanen. That was EXACTLY how Jari takes them. And he rarely misses.

Although he doesn't do that little hop when he takes the run up, as Jari use to ;)

i remember woodison.. still the best penalty taker apart from murphy we have had.. a Football legend

Fowler is not a great penalty taker by any means. He has missed plenty in his time. If he is the best after Murphy then we have had some pretty poor ones. For me, he comes after (in no particular order) Molby, Murphy, Gary Mac, Jari, Phil Neal to name but a few.

Yes but in fairness I'd give even money on my old ma to be successful with a free shot from 12 yards. Fowler was completely anonymous yesterday and I couldn't see the logic in playing him as he clearly hasn't got it anymore

More "old boy" than "lad" these days - let's hope there's better; could scarcely be worse

Oh do f*** off.

Averaging not far off a goal every other game since he came back I'd say. Yeah, he's s***.

Penos are not as easy as they look. Just remember Istanbul 2005! As for being like an old boy, quite a few people were off their game yesterday including SG.

just back frm an injury ... off the pace yes... but he'll get that sharpness back

I don't think anyone has ever called him sh**, but I wish people would get in the real f****** world when talking about Fowler. He was past his best 5 years ago! Yes, he can "still do a job" for us but if you seriously believe a player that Man City were willing to let go on a free (with no other takers) should be starting regularly for us and will score the goals that make us challenge for the league then you're ten years too late.

He is no more than a bit part player for us this season, Kuyt and Bellamy will (probably) start the vast majority of games for us and if you believe different then you are deluding yourself.

Was disappointed with his touch in general on Saturday. Clearly wasn't ready for that match so soon after his injury.

I do so enjoy the mature level of debate on here!

Fowler's completely past it. If you think he deserves to be in our first team then you're deluded. He did bugger all against Sheffield except kick the ball in a straight line for once from 12 yards. If he's as good as we can put out up front then we're in big trouble. He hadn't exactly been pulling up trees at Leeds or City and I don't remember us almost being almost thwarted by a late swoop from Barca or Milan when City wanted to offload him.

Why do so many people on here lose all sense of proportion when it comes to Fowler and are prepared to put up with performances from him that simply wouldn't be tolerated from other players?

This is possibly the first sensible post I've read on here about Fowler. I say the same and I'm told to eff off. It's a funny old world!

Personally I thought that there was more than a fair share of swerve on his spot kick.

and play the 1-2 with Stevie G for the penalty

So good you posted it twice?

Maybe nobody has called him 's***' but saying he 'clearly hasn't got it anymore' and 'could scarcely be worse' comes as close as you can get without using the actual word. That was the comment I was responding to.

If he is so s***, oops sorry 'clearly hasn't got it anymore', then why did Rafa bring him in? How do you explain his goals per game record since returning to us? Why do all of the other players rave about his contribution?

And you'll have to point out to me where I said he should play every game rather than accepting a bit part. Of course he'll play a bit part - but if he was 'clearly past it' then he wouldn't even be able to do that. Saying he has nothing to offer is as delusional as saying that he will be the key man.

But I tell you what, you lay in to the people who actually support one of our players rather than those who lay into him after his first game of the season.

All right, but apart from setting up the move that led to the pen, and scoring the equaliser - what have the Romans ever done for us?

Why did Rafa bring him in? Because he was cheap, if it doesn't work out then he can let Fowler go without too much pain - unlike, say Morientes or Cisse (or Heskey or Diouf) whereby we had to take big losses just to get rid of them.

I'm not a huge fan of Fowler, I admit, and a large part of that is down to spending good money on season tickets during the mid 90's only to find out years later that the rumours going around at the time were largely true - namely that the players of that era (of which Fowler was one of the main leaders) plainly didn't give one f*** about the fans and were more interested in the status that playing for us gave them. Still, "He was only a young lad" and "he loves the club" so now apparently we have to put up with post after post whereby the last 4 years of his Liverpool career (and the time at City ) didn't actually happen and Fowler is " one of the best strikers in the world" again.

Yes, he has a part to play, and if we're lucky he may well score 7-10 goals for us but you can't condemn people for saying that he's not up to it if you don't also recognise that the hyperbole that surrounds his every move is just stupidity.
