say on sky that hes given up on playing for us as we dont want him

whats the story with his contract? he must have a few years left or is it almost up?

given that hes now an england international, surely we could recoup most if not all of the initial outlay on him?

We would have wanted him, and would probably be first choice now if he wasn't made of glass.

Maybe he just isn't as good as he was hyped up?

Kirkland's chances of making it here are very slim since Carson has just signed a long term contract and it seems Dudek will be staying for some time as well. I'm sure Rafa let Kirkland know that and in truth probably wanted some money for him instead of a loan deal, but of course no one's going to pay any significant fee for glass man.

I know his injuries have been a huge problem, but in all honesty I didn't think he was that good even when he did have a run of games.

He struggled with his positioning and the reflexes didn't seem that great; during that run a fair few shots were going in around the centre of the goal, and he often didn't move when you thought afterwards if he had he'd have saved it.

He's been a big disappointment, but he seems a nice lad so I hope he manages to get his career back on track elsewhere...

once had a 'keeper,

and it was a gas,

soon found out,

he was made of glass.

Seemed like the real thing, only to find

Pepe Reina, has left him behind

Perhaps that major dip was a result of the injuries?

He was excellent before coming to Liverpool....

Was he though? Or was it a case of being made to look good in an absolutely s**** team? (Not all down to that but you only have to look at the "Russell Hoult for England" shouts a few years back to see what playing behind a woeful defence can do for you)

I still think he should have saved that Carsley effort

And the free kick at Vila and Vieira's goal where he just dived out of the way.

The injuries may have reduced his mobility, certainly the back problems. However they shouldn't have prevented him getting off the ground or saving shots which were basically straight down his throat.

There were quite a few examples during what was a run of just a few months as number 1; to those above I'd add Rivaldo's free-kick at Anfield when we fought back to win 3-1 so famously. I know it came past the wall but it was along the ground and he actually moved out of the way to allow it to go in.

Like I said, he seems a cracking lad and I wish him all the best; but after a season of Reina, it kind of puts Kirkland's ability into perspective.

no chance. We've paid close on £7 mill for him by now (2 clauses in the contract having been triggered), no-way will we get anywhere near that back.

If he manages to stay fit, and have a decent few months for Wigin, then I reckon Rafa would snap their hands off for 1 - 1.5 mill, just to get rid of his long contract.

Never was convinced by him. Was good to see him come in as Dudek was making lots of mistakes, and Chris wasnt. Soon relaised that although he wasnt making c**k ups, he just wasnt making any saves either.

End of debate!

Hope he comes good though.

And Laurent Robert's freekick at Newcastle...

Wasn't that Carson? Or was there another one? The Carson one was pretty well unstoppable, tbh.

I really wanted Chris to succeed - he was a genuine Boyhood Red, but almost everty game he played in that extended run had him with that forlorn, hands outstretched, palms up look - "how did you expect me to stop that one?" as another moderate on target shot found it's way past him. Reina is our Future, and for that we must be eternally grateful.

£7m???

not a chance

He's one of those keepers, like Friedel, Niemi and Given who will look good in lesser teams because they make several good saves a game and aren't criticised as much for conceding. None of them are good enough for the top teams though.

erm Given is one of the best keepers in europe and has been for years.. Niemi is also good enough but nothing amazing as for friedel well... he's just not in the same league.

He's a great shot stopper, but he's poor on crosses, doesn't command his box and his kicking is awful.

And his general positionning is crap. I think Makaveli might have been sold by the hype.

He's been at the same level as he currently has for years. During that time, at various stages, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal have all been desperate for solid goalies. How come not one of them has ever bid for Given if he's as good as he's made out to be?
