How bad are Ireland

They have been without some key players tonight like Keane and Duff but they have been ripped apart by Holland tonight and totally outclassed and hardly had a kick. In the past, Ireland would always compete against anyone, particularly at Lansdowne Road and have beat Holland a few times but they just look a poor side now, managed by a novice manager with no experience. Its sad to see.

Worst I have seen for many many years. Should 7 or 8 nil. Huntelaar looks very good. Van Der Vaart has creativity and technique 20.

That was the worst Irish performance I've ever seen. They'll have to change the yellow Macedonia bib to an orange Holland one.

football is our about our 3rd biggest sport, in a nation of just under 4 million, with that in mind, we`ve over acheived the past 20 years, we havent helped ourselves regarding managerial appointments, just look at Trinidad and tobago, they got a good german coach in and the poms could barely beat them, but who do we get??? Steve f***ing staunton, an absolute stocking, s**** player, even s***ter manager, stupid prick cant even conduct an interview, he really should quit

Staunton just looks so out of his depth, I feel sorry for him.

That old chestnut.

That old chestnut.

It's usually the English lads that roll that one out. It would be credible if it wasn't for all the "naturalised" players we've "acquired" over the years.

You sound like Jocks. :D

"Aah but our population is that much smaller, the pool of players we have to choose from.. " etc etc.

Just saw Staunton's interview - came across as a right tik c***.

it's a shame but he looks out of his depth, like a young version of Graham Taylor - a pasting like that in Germany and the knives will be out

I was agreeing with you. Anyway, we'll be great in 10-15 years now that we've spiced up the gene pool with the best Africa and Eastern Europe has to offer.

Sing it with me "What we need...is a great big melting pot"

to be honest the appointment of Staunton as maanager for RoI is the equivalent of Prince William managing England. No experiene whatsoever.

Next interview...I managed Ireland that should give me the valuable experience I need to manage, err, Scarborough.

The worst home performance since Denmark thumped us 4-1 under Eoin Hand.

"They did to us what we wanted to do to them" - said Staunton. Well Steve, if you believe that we could ever to that to a Holland team with this squad of players, then you are seriously deranged. You might start by dumping Stephen Carr, Liam Miller & Kevin Kilbane. Then you might introduce a bit of defensive organisation, and that includes having a midfield that will actually work hard, track back & get some tackles in. When you have some solidity introduced, perhaps you could start dreaming of dominating a Dutch team.

The post match interview with Staunton was cringe worthy viewing. Even the most basic questions on tactics were greeted with a blank stare and some incoherent mumblings. It was embarassing.

That "Staunton Must Go" headline appeared on the Star, apparently, written by...

...Éamonn Dunphy.

He left his radio job to concentrate on his soccer analysis and gets 200k a year to write that after three friendlies, one of which was won, and two weeks before his first competitive match, the new manager should be sacked.

Ooooh, that's gotta hurt. FAI lose 6-1 on aggregate what with the Finland result. 10-1 if you count Old Trafford. Must be surely close to being the turn of FAI supporters to make noises about an all-Ireland team? :mischief: But what would happen to the brilliant "one team in Ireland" chant? It wouldn't be half as witty.

I'm sure Staunton will wave to Sanchez as the Norn Ironers pass us on their way up the World rankings as we slide on down. How soon before the ROI slip out of the top 100 ?

world rankings do not matter in any way

whats important is that we improve our coefficient so that we dont end up in the fourth pot of seeds again like that for this draw. The Czechs lost at home last night in Nedved's last game so have to be there for the taking. Harsh to write off Stan after one poor game.

Any thoughts on team for Germany?

Given

Finnan O'Shea Dunne Harte

McGeady S Reid Ireland/Douglas Duff

Keane Doyle
