...is apparently Jermain Defoe according to David Platt last night on Radio 5. Fowler, Owen, Shearer and plenty of others would probably take issue with that little beauty.

Bloody hell, Platt really talks some crap. He was one of those people who's been at the highest level of the game, and listening to him talk you wondered if he'd actually been paying attention to what was going on around him during all those years he'd been playing.

He came out with a few other belters but that one was the only one I can remember now unfortunately...

Pleat's a complete spanner. Listening to him at the World Cup was like listening to a mental breakdown as it happenned

That's very interesting, but what are your thoughts on David Platt?

FWIW, As a former manager of the England U21's I reckon Platty'll have a better insight than most into the subject. He's still a tool though.

I know I'm biased, but anyone who doesn't mention Fowler when they are talking about 'natural finishers' hasn't got a f*cking clue.

There have been some great finishers, but what makes Robbie THE most natural finisher of recent times at least is his range. He can score with chips, volleys, headers, right-foot, left-foot, placed, blasts, any type of finish you can name.

You see someone like Cisse who whatever people say about him otherwise, does score goals when he plays, but he can only do it one way. Even other great goalscorers like Shearer and Owen are more one dimensional, Shearer would go for power mostly and had brilliant technique doing so, Owen a dink or placement past the keeper.

Fowler is the most complete finisher of the lot. Despite his resurrection here, (and I'm sure he'll score quite a few more over the next couple of seasons), I'll still always wonder just how good Robbie could have been had he stayed fitter and injury free earlier in his career.

Whenever anyone uses that term 'natural finisher', a picture dictionary with an illustration of Fowler pops up in my head...
