Hassony Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 I think we have had an excellent summer that will hopefully get even better with Kujt, I also think man city have had some good deals (Didi, Corradi and replacing James with isaksson) Portsmouth have had the worst probably, all that money that is burning a hole in harry's pocket and only got campbell, James and Kanu to show for it
Andy @ Allerton Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Best : us Worst : Mancs Relegation for them b******s
Scally the Wag Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Latest reports have them linked with Baptista as part of a Reyes-to-Real deal... I would not be too happy with that. Baptista was a very good player at Seville. He has had to suffer the usual pick Raul & Ronaldo first system at Real and could very well come good again at a new club. Not at all happy at the prospect.
nvdm Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Chelski signed Shevchenko, hard to better that really.
Scally the Wag Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Oh, I don't know, they could have signed him as a 23 year-old and got the best years out of him...
Benitez Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 If they lost Cole and Reyes and don't replace them they'll struggle to get a top 4 place. if they swap Reyes for Baptista though, Arsenal benefit. Reyes has been a bust for them, he's not shown anywhere near the consistency and talent.
tag Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 if they swap Reyes for Baptista though, Arsenal benefit. Reyes has been a bust for them, he's not shown anywhere near the consistency and talent. Imagine that, reyes = baptista + cashcole = gallas + cash. that's some deal shld AW pull it through
Benitez Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I think City have done pretty well. Strengthened their midfield with Didi and Dabo, and their attack with Corradi and Dickov. They have some depth now. Replacing David James is a masterstroke too. Have to agree that Villa fans should be overjoyed with their summer. But I think it will be another 2 season before we see Villa back up in the European places. Arsenal, Newcastle and Portsmouth have been pretty poor so far. I think Newcastle have some real problems. They have one fit striker and the same defence as last year. Plus there is the Glenn Roeder factor. Aye, but at least Steven Taylor, and Craig Moore are fit to start the season having missed the vast majority of last season. Both of whom are huge improvments on Shambles and Boumsong. It's their striker situation that is crazy right now, they need 2 new forwards you'd think. Or they go into the first weeked of the league season with just Ameobi. What the fec happened to Luque? I know he isn't an out and out striker anyway, but he is a forward, and could at least do a job, but he just seems to have dissapeared AGAIN!
nvdm Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Shevchenko will be player of the year this year. If football is a great big puzzle, Mourinho signed one of the biggest pieces in him. He's an obvious, expensive, uninteresting signing in terms of the required scouting, but he will be f***ing brilliant and I will be genuinely surprised if he does not score 30 goals. He got 127 goals in 207 games in Italy, a league known for it's generally defensive style and rigid tactics and has almost a goal every other game playing for Ukraine. I'm not sure that Chelsea will win the league this season but Sheva is going to be an absoloute joy to watch. One of the few very special players of my generation.
Gomez Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Have to agree that Villa fans should be overjoyed with their summer. But I think it will be another 2 season before we see Villa back up in the European places. Don't know. I think there is very little between 5th and 14th, as has been proven by the likes of Wigan, Everton etc. Maybe Spurs could claim they are a cut above the rest of the pack, but it's really only been one season, the rest of the yerp places should be up for grabs by anyone, Villa included.
